[Bug 43477] New: When editing an item search bar should display search catalog instead of cataloging search
https://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=43477 Bug ID: 43477 Summary: When editing an item search bar should display search catalog instead of cataloging search Initiative type: --- Sponsorship --- status: Product: Koha Version: Main Hardware: All OS: All Status: NEW Severity: enhancement Priority: P5 - low Component: Cataloging Assignee: koha-bugs@lists.koha-community.org Reporter: mathsabypro@gmail.com QA Contact: testopia@bugs.koha-community.org CC: m.de.rooy@rijksmuseum.nl Target Milestone: --- When editing or creating an item search bar currently display "cataloging search" (search in the catalog and the reservoir) I think it is not what most librarians expect. It would be better to display "search catalog" instead. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. You are watching all bug changes.
https://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=43477 --- Comment #1 from Owen Leonard <oleonard@myacpl.org> --- Editing and creating items are cataloging tasks. Why shouldn't the header search form reflect that? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. You are watching all bug changes.

For libraries using the reservoir I think the fuller search of catalog + reservoir after finishing an item is the right workflow. We don't use the reservoir much, but personally I appreciate that the "cataloging search" no-results screen offers links to the "Advanced Editor" and "New record", which is where I want to go next after finishing an item on my cataloging cart, searching the next one in our system to confirm we don't have a record, and then getting to my cataloging business. Having "cataloging search" here saves a lot of clicks. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. You are watching all bug changes.

If you are latter one, the search catalog would be better one. If you are a cataloger the cataloging search would be better. It is possible to choose the Search catalog before the search so I would not change this. Or at least add a system preference to globally choose which one is offered by default. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes. You are the assignee for the bug.
https://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=43477 --- Comment #4 from Mathieu Saby <mathsabypro@gmail.com> --- Thank you for your feedback! I realize that my idea is tied to how we use Koha in my library:
The staff who manage the items are not the same as those who edit the records, so for us, item management is not considered "cataloging." Searching the reservoir is absolutely useless to us; it just gets in the way every time we accidentally stumble upon it. The only time we use the repository is when we import acquisition records, but within seconds of importing them into the reservoir , we validate the creation of the records in the catalog, so we *never* need to search the reservoir
We would therefore greatly appreciate a System Preferences option to completely disable searching in the repository -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes. You are the assignee for the bug.
