It would be better to have another field that tracks this status. If the status is null, the shelving location shows as usual. If it is not null, then it either can show the temporary location, or show the shelving location and the temporary location next to it in parenthesis (ie - Adult Fiction (Recently Returned)). The field could simply be a bit, either 1 and 0 or 1 and null. A fact that wasn't very clear until I read the descriptions better. So the report issue is moot, except for the fact that I have to update over 250 reports to the permanent_location field instead of location. This does point out a bit of craziness in Koha, in that the term permanent location in the actual item record refers to the branch location, not a shelving location! Anyway, a major issue still exists in that you CANNOT see the permanent_location information in the item record. All you can see is the temporary shelving location. I hope the reports have been fixed in the last 7 years ;)
This does point out a bit of craziness in Koha, in that the term permanent location in the actual item record refers to the branch location, not a shelving location!
The descriptions of item subfields have been fixed since, but only for new installations. The previous permanent location is now home library.
Anyway, a major issue still exists in that you CANNOT see the permanent_location information in the item record. All you can see is the temporary shelving location. This should be rectified.
