Hello Ville, Andrew and everyone, Thank you for pointing this out. Andrew has given you the correct explanation - that the word "guide" appears in fields not displayed on the OPAC search- usually in the series title field. But you are absolutely right, Ville, that this is important information that should be displayed on the OPAC screens. That it is not displayed is an historical accident, rather than a deliberate attempt to conceal. Different libraries may use the Notes field on the biblio record for different purposes. At HLT, we use it to add information that we think will help make the record more accessible or more meaningful, or to add detail that can't be fitted anywhere else. None of this is confidential, and we'd be perfectly happy to have it display. Do other libraries use it the same way? (We use the notes field on the item record for purposes which are not so public) Anyone volunteering to add to the OPAC display the additional fields not currently displayed? I searched http://opac.library.org.nz with keyword "guide". However among the first 30 results are 6 records where word "guide" does not appear.
A keyword search looks in a whole lot of places for the keywords you give it, including title, subtitle, series title, biblio notes and biblioitem notes, and subjects. Not all of these are displayed in the OPAC search results. So if a book were part of the "Bob's Guides to Pets", you might not see why it was included.

Yes, I did check all visible fields - but searies titles and notes are invisible. I think this is very, very wrong. If I remember right then some of those notes are for librarian only - and should not be searched. There is also no reason to hide notes that are made for opac users.
Hiding the series title is also wrong because it makes difficult to uniquely identify searched works.
(of course someone at Horowhenua should check the search result just to make sure it is not a bug)
