Hey Guys, I support Ruth Bavousett's suggested approach if it can be generalized over all CSS components. Based on our experience with Arabic Koha (you can visit some Arabic/English Koha sites to see it in action: http://kfuschools.maktabat-online.net<http://kfuschools.maktabat-online.net:8080/> | http://alshafallah.maktabat-online.net/ | http://mu.maktabat-online.net/; for visiting the Arabic Staff client, click here: http://kfuschools.maktabat-online.net:8080/ using demo/demo for User ID and Password), it must be R2L tweaked manually at almost every component level in the CSS to appear correctly in R2L. This is the reason we have to create and maintain an Arabic CSS for every Koha OPAC site interface. We will be happy to work on Ruth's suggested implementation when his work becomes available for testing. It will be awesome to see the Arabic Koha (say ver. 3.10) comes billy dancing (middle eastern good-time expression!) out of the box without having to tweak each component in order to look super from right to left. All the best. Thanks Massoud M. AlShareef, عالم الانجازات ينحاز دوماً مع المتفائلين The world of achievement has always belonged to the optimist! KnowledgeWare Technologies (P.O. Hiya!
I managed to translate all of nb-NO for the 3.8 deadline, *except* most of the help pages. I might be able to do a few of them occasionally now, though. If I remember correctly, a lot of changes to these files were committed after the .po files in Pootle were generated. Could someone please generate new .po files for nb-NO so I can keep on translating up-to-date files?

Hi Karam,
I think this is a great initiative. I'm fluent in Farsi (Persian) language and would be interested in helping out in developing Farsi version of the Koha that could be used in IRAN, Afghanistan, and other places. Please let me know how you are planning to proceed.
Are you thinking to form a team to work on right-to-left languages? Let me know ...

Hi all . I'm looking to develop the result of koha translation process?in Arabic
as you know the Arabic language is deffer from English
in Arabic we read and write from right to left
this is possible to be modified by hand but if we want to create an Arabic version of koha we need to make the text by default goes from right to left .
so what we have to do to make this koha Arabic Version ? and make it as a choice in the installations steps when selecting Arabic.
I think my group can edit the css files and make this ok (direction rtl )
but how to make this changes Permanent for every new Arabic Koha installation
can we make some default template for Arabic language , or that can be selected from the po files in some way ? or it must be included in the koha package , or what ?
Both Arabic and Hebrew, and the non-Semitic languages using the Arabic or the Hebrew alphabet, such as Persian and Yiddish, are written from right to left (except for their numbers!). Urdu which is also derived from Arabic and Persian language and ancient indo - aryan language binti is written from right to left. Ancient Egyptian, Etruscan, Greek and the oldest Latin could be written in both directions. Also Chinese and Japanese can be written right to left (also written from top to bottom, vertically). Korean is NOT written from right to left
I wish we discuss this to make the next koha version fully supported for Arabic language
Kind regards

some good news... :)
it looks like the Koha will do RTL (right-to-left) languages for translation correctly ... because Koha uses 'Pootle' software to translate
see here....
http://translate.sourceforge.net/wiki/developers/styling http://translate.sourceforge.net/wiki/pootle/features
"The Pootle online translation editor - Implements right-to-Left display where needed for both translation content and the user interface"
and here...
http://franhp.net/svn/catux-server/configs/pootle.prefs
# Pootle.description # # Consider adding <div dir="ltr"> ... </div> around any text in a left-to- # right language to guarantee good rendering for users of right-to-left # languages and vice versa if you put a message in a right-to-left language. # For multilingual servers, you might also want to indicate the language of # your description to ensure proper rendering and for better accessibility.
