I installed also en-GB and that works fine too.
Compairing the two versions of detail.tt (in en-GB and in de-DE) I noticed that the version in en-GB has much more lines 175 to 75.
It works for me on my devel box with de-DE. Which Koha 3.4 are you using? It may fail on 3.4.0 and work on 3.4.1.
