Paul, My consortia of libraries has assigned me the task of making a translation in Swedish. If there is documentation about how to do a translation, then please point out the link. Because of the low traffic on koha-translate and the discussions here, I presume now that the koha-translate list is now depreciated and that discussions of translation are to be discussed from now on in koha-devel instead. In the mean time, I have found the three files "intranet.fr", "opac-css.fr", and "opac.fr" in the directory koha/misc/translator and created corresponding ones for Swedish : "intranet.sv", "opac-css.sv", and "opac.sv" with the second column of text being in Swedish. The plan here is quite simple : if you do a translation, ask for a sourceforge account or send me the file (if it's for 2.2 future release) & i'll add it. (Note translators are added to the "about" page, so they become famous all around the world ;-) )

In fact, it's still here & needs some rebirth. There are specific translation tools in Koha, so the koha-translate ML should be used.

No. In fact, there is a highly better tool than the one I did for french 2.0 : it's tmpl_process3.pl This tool works like the tmpl_process.pl tool that was used for french. But it generates .po file. A .po file is standard in the free software world. So you can use various tools to do your translation stuff : kbabel is the most known. For 2.2 release, we will drop the tmpl_process.pl script (already done) and use the tmpl_process3 script. and i've installed kartouche, a nice software, on a web interface, that all french can use to do translation. 60% of the OPAC is done & 10% of the intranet. -- Paul POULAIN Consultant indépendant en logiciels libres responsable francophone de koha (SIGB libre http://www.koha-fr.org)
Thanks, Paul. I have two further questions. The first one is more important for me. The second is of general interest and would be good to include in the koha translation HOWTO or documentation. First, where can I use these tools to complete the preliminary Swedish translation? Are any already online that can make po files? Since I am billing for my hours in this task, I'd prefer use my time for the actual translation, not the installation, configuration, debugging and maintenance of another server or set of services and so on. ./tmpl_process3.pl without argument gives you the parameters. for example : ./tmpl_process3.pl create -r -i ~/koha-tmpl/intranet-tmpl/default/en -s ~/french.po the -i being for original templates the -s being the .po to generate. when you want to generate translated templates, just run tmpl_process3.pl with install and a -o parameter. Important note : in Koha, the .po is used to create translated templates. The .po is NOT used during runtime to translate a page. It's a sort of "template compilator". Hi there Paul, and everyone! I'm having trouble generating translated templates from the 'po' files... For example... I've created a 'po' file from reports.tmpl... opened it with KBabel and translated it (it only has one word, so it was easy :P) Now... I want to generate the translated reports.tmpl So I run the following: ./tmpl_process3.pl install -i reports.tmpl -s reports.po -o /koha-2.1.1/intranet-html/intranet-tmpl/default/es/ (be sure that I've tried a lot of things aside of this, before asking to the list :D ) but it gives me an "Assertion failed at tmpl_process3.pl line 322" error.... no matter what I try... I've checked line 322... but I have no idea of what would be going wrong... any hint about this? thanks in advance! Martin Longo
