It sounds like there might be problems with DNS (/etc/hosts not having your
hostname); could you report on the result of this command?

$ perl -e 'use Sys::Hostname; use Socket; print hostname() . "\n"; print
gethostbyname(hostname()) ? "dns good\n" : "dns bad\n";'
