Introduction
=========

This is a summary with highlights from the most recent documentation IRC
meeting held on 4 July 2019.

You can access the IRC minutes and logs from
https://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Documentation_IRC_meeting_4_July_2019#Minutes

Main discussion points
==================

Action points (David):
* Git for beginners: David to add outline, Caroline offered to help out.
(Aim is to add a section on git for beginners for editing manual - for
those who aren't familiar with git.)
* Suggested tasks (from easy to hard): initial attempt sent to the
documentation list
http://lists.koha-community.org/pipermail/koha-docs/2019-July/000251.html

Education meeting:
* Lots of interest - highlights
https://lists.katipo.co.nz/pipermail/koha/2019-June/053227.html

Getting started with Koha:
* Discussed the need for a getting started with Koha guide (how to setup
Koha for the first time for those new to Koha).
* Could include adapting and updating Brooke's guide (
https://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Newbie_guide).
* Could also look at organising the manual around the implementation
checklist - change name to 'getting started checklist'.
* This would be much better than starting straight into all the system
preferences - main aim is to help those just starting with Koha get going
as quickly as possible.
* David to look at ideas for reorganising/restructuring and make available
in a test area for feedback.
* koha-US has a great page that visually organises their learning content,
so something we should consider (https://koha-us.org/learn-from-koha-us/).

Installation guide:
* Discussed the need for an official installation guide, as there are so
many guides available (including our wiki) and are often not up-to-date or
very old.
* To raise at the next general meeting and with the devs to get feedback.
* To build on package installation instructions on the wiki, link from
manual - the ultimate aim would be the 'official' guide appearing at top of
search results.

Wiki software update:
* Follow-up required on updating the wiki software, see
http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=23073 [discussed
at the general meeting].

Wiki updating:
* Curator role - need to further define responsibilities.
* Need to find a volunteer to help with curating the wiki content, and
keeping as organised as possible.
* Also need to look at how we obsolete/archive/remove content in the wiki.

Other items:
* For style/content development guide: keep language as simple and
consistent as possible, no long paragraphs, etc (particularly for
non-English speakers).

Progress:
* Carolyn has been progressively working on reviewing and updating the
acquisition chapter.

Priorities for 19.05 remain as:
* Adding information on system preference changes and notices.
* Adding information about new features.
