[Bug 43705] New: Rename "Circulation triggers" as "Overdue notice triggers" or "Overdue notice rules"
https://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=43705 Bug ID: 43705 Summary: Rename "Circulation triggers" as "Overdue notice triggers" or "Overdue notice rules" Initiative type: --- Sponsorship --- status: Product: Koha Version: Main Hardware: All OS: All Status: NEW Severity: enhancement Priority: P5 - low Component: Staff interface Assignee: koha-bugs@lists.koha-community.org Reporter: anneli.osterman@koha-suomi.fi QA Contact: testopia@bugs.koha-community.org CC: gmcharlt@gmail.com Target Milestone: --- Bug https://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=10190 introduced the new Circulation triggers module in Administration that replaced the Overdue notice/status triggers in the Tools section. The bug has so many comments that I cannot find if there were any conversation about the new name. The new name is in my opinion ambiguous because "circulation" can mean many things: checkin, checkout, renew and so on. The earlier name was more precise and you could immediately understand what the tool does: You can set rules for overdue notices. I propose "Circulation triggers" to be renamed as "Overdue notice triggers" or even "Overdue notice rules". -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes. Most immediately, see Bug 39756, which would pull Long Overdue behavior into this interface. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. https://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=43705 --- Comment #3 from Anneli Österman <anneli.osterman@koha-suomi.fi> --- I see, does anyone know which fuctionalities will be added here? The word "trigger" is difficult to understand for a non-technical person and hard to translate. Could we use something more user friendly word? Cirlucation rules? Same goes for the word "context". Is there any word that could be used instead of it? Maybe something that already exists in Koha? I can always translate them more non-technically but it does not help those who use the interface in English. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes. Cirlucation rules?
I can see what you mean about "trigger" being somewhat technical, but it's the same term we used for this previously. It was the "Overdue notice & status triggers" page. "Circulation rules" has the obvious problem of being the same name we already use for another page. Maybe "Overdue item rules" or something similar would make sense and match what's controlled here. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes. anything, as an act or event, that serves as a stimulus and initiates or precipitates a reaction or series of reactions.
I can't think of a better word to mean that. In the cases here we're talking about Circulation actions as the trigger so 'Circulation' makes sense to me too.. I suppose we could call them 'Checkout triggers' or 'Checkout delay triggers' but I think that actually sounds more complicated rather than clearer.. perhaps this is getting lost in translation? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes. Hmm.. perhaps. :) If there will be only actions related to overdued checktouts (ovedue notices and long overdue mentioned) then I would use something like "Overdue triggers" because as I mentioned in my initial text the word "Circulation" is at least as I understand it much much broader term. To me it means at least all these things: checkin out, checkin in, renewing But if everyone else thinks that circulation is a good word here then I'll probably just translate it more precisecly to concern overdues. :) -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. https://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=43705 --- Comment #7 from Katrin Fischer <katrin.fischer@bsz-bw.de> --- As the checkout or checkin is not the trigger, but the fact that things become 'overdue' - I believe overdue triggers would still work for the previous behavior and the to be added long overdues. I think it would be helpful to keep the term "overdue" in the description to ease orientation at least. I am OK with trigger, it works for me in this context. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. You are watching all bug changes.
