I am working on the Danish translation for Koha. I have been away from the work for quiet some time, but yestoday I started to update all the files. However, I have run into a serious problem with the terminology-file. It says that it is complete. But when I enter the file, a number of terms, which should contain the Danish special characters (æ. ø and å) instead contains very large amounts og "Â?Ã?Â?Ã?Â?" (hundreds of lines).
Yestoday I managed to correct a number of these terms, but after a while it seemed to make Pootle extremely slow, so I had to stop. Today as I came back, it was the same mess again - all my corrections were gone.
Somebody please help :-(
Hi Lars The terminology file isn't actually used by Koha so you can ignore that, i'll investigate it though, but it isn't actually used, just the opac, intranet and preferences ones. Chris

fine then I'll leave the terminology file out for the moment. But I still have the problem that the server is very, very slow to me. I just tried to open the file "OPAC for 3.1.x/3.2", but after 10 minutes it is still trying to open the file. I can not get into any of the files.
Without knowing anything about how this system works, I wonder if some kind of cache or error-log connected to my account has been filled up. I did a lot of translations during the past two days and i had the feeling as if in the end it was getting slower and slower.
It appears that it is django and/or pootle wigging out about something. Ive turned off apache as t was going OOM and will try and figure out whats up and restart it again. Chris

Ok, i flushed memcached, made pootle rebuild stats, and it seems happier now, can you confirm? Chris

In OPAC for 3.1/3.2 there are some function names. I wonder if they should be translated or left as they are?

I have finished the danish translation of the OPAC-files and the Intranet is probably at about 20% and growing. But I know that there are some errors in the OPAC-files. Therefore I would like to test and correct them. I have installed Koha on a mascihe here in my office - only for testing purposes. Now I need a (hopefully simple) explanation on how to install a new po-file on that.
That way I could make the corrections in the po-file, install it and then check, if the corrections come up at the right place. Is there such an explanation somewhere? --

Hi Lars, I hope I can explain it correctly. The process is depending on your version of Koha, because there is a new translation script in 3.2. But it's always not hard to do. For 3.2: - copy updated po files to /misc/translator/po - run: perl translate install <language-code> from /misc/translator There is also a page on the wiki explaining the process in more detail: http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Installation_of_additional_languages _for_OPAC_and_INTRANET_staff_client Remember to activate the language in your sys prefs after template generation. Yestoday I compketed the Danish po-files for 3.2 (OPAC and Intranet). Now, I wonder what to do next? My plan is to wait for the release of 3.2, have it installed here and then start making corrections in the translations. There will probably be a number of issues turning up, when the files are installed. That is the case with the 3.0 OPAC-file, but I dont think I will spend any more time on that?
You don't have to wait 3.2 release to test your translation. You can test on 3.2beta. Do you have it installed? Do you know how to activate your language?
But then there is also the prefs.po-file. Should I complete that? When will that be used?
Koha system preferences are located in Admin > System preferences. They are defined in a bundle of .pref text files. Those files are translatable.
And if so, how should it be done? I took a look at the NZ, German and French versions and noticed an important difference. Each line consists of a variable-name and an explanation, but in the German and French versions, the variable-names are left out and only the explanation is translated. Is that the correct way to do it?

Hi Lars, if you are not sure how to do it, just translate a few and install the file in your installation. My experience is, if you translate the variable names, they will show up - that's not what you want J Translate the explanation only. The German file is working, but I suspect a small problem with some strings, hope I can test that a bit more in the next days. Only translation manager for a bit longer until you take over Frederic :) But yes, ideally we want the translations finished before 3.2.0 is released. Before the final release there will be a release candidate. And then for the 3.2.0 release, we will only be including .po files which have at least 50% translation done. Once 3.2.0 is released people will download it, and the expectation is that the translations will be as complete as possible. So if you can, testing it now, so that we don't release and someone switches to Danish and Koha stops working :) Chris

Would it be OK, if I take de-DE-i-staff-t-prog-v-3002000.po from the Harley-Release, convert it into da-DA-i-staff-t-prog-v-3002000.po and then send it somewhere for inclusion ????
Don't take it from Harley, Harley is not an official Koha release and the file in there is very very out of date compared to the one in the official git repository. You can certainly get the file from http://git.koha-community.org/gitweb/?p=koha.git;a=tree;f=misc/translator/po; Or you can download it from pootle itself. If that doesn't work I can email you the latest copy of the .po file. Whatever works the best for you :) Chris
