Hi all, I'm a bit stumped in my translations. There is one string that is used in acquisitions and tools/marc_modification_templates, among others. The word in English is "Order". It is used in acquisitions as in "to place an order", or for the "order" itself, but in marc_modification_templates, is is used as "rank". In French, there are two different words for the two different meanings. So it either doesn't make sense in acquisitions or in marc_modification_templates. Is there a way to split the string in two so that one can be used in acquisitions and another in marc_modification_templates, since the meanings are different? Hi Caroline, we have the same problems with the German translation. Order, issue, item, subject, cancel, term… In the past this has mostly been solved by changing the templates to make the string more specific: subject > email subject cancel > cancel hold issue > serial issue … See also: <https://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=11285> Bug 11285 - Vocabulary disambiguation I am not sure If there is a better solution available at the moment. Hi Caroline Yes, nasty problems with homonyms exist in other languages as well, e.g. in German. We have two related Bugs: Bug 11285 - Vocabulary disambiguation https://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=11285 Bug 15395 - Allow correct handling of plural translation https://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=15395 The latter allows to add context to a string; see comment 28 on Bug 11285 by Julian Maurice: "...allows to attach context to a string, so the same string can be translated in different ways, depending on the context." Salut Caroline, We faced this problem a few years ago, with the word "issue" : issue of a serial (fascicule) and checkout (prêt) the only solution to this problem is to disambiguate the English by choosing a different word for each meaning.
