Hi All, On either Monday 2/2 or Tuesday 3/2, a small group of Koha users will meet to share a meal together and swap Koha experiences. Might you be interested in joining us? Not far from the Information Online conference <http://information-online.alia.org.au> venue, the Graffiti Ristorante <http://www.thearthousehotel.com.au/menus/graffiti-menu/> is a good meetup place and has a reasonably priced menu. Please reply to the list or to me to confirm if you will join in as we need to confirm numbers with the restaurant and also confirm if you need a vegan menu as that needs to be confirmed the day before. Koha and Cobber

Hello everyone. This is my first post to this list so it is an introduction of myself and my project (Cobber). A couple of years ago I created a Wordpress page about a project I had just started called Cobber Linux (1) or Cobber for short. I started Cobber as a way of teaching myself the finer details of Linux (more specifically Debian). and after a short while decided I would make Cobber a Debian based distribution specifically for Australasia. I taught myself how to use Debian Live Build to create a Live CD/DVD/USB and was going to release Cobber on a Wheezy base. Now that Debian Jessie is in Freeze I decided to use Jessie as Cobber's first base for release. In the time since I first created the Wordpress page I have taught myself webdesign, purchased a domain name "cobber-linux.org" (2), written a website (still working on it in various ways) and have developed a repository (3) which is undergoing a full rebuild over the next couple of weeks, and translated into Australian English various open source projects such as MATE, XFCE, Pidgin, and parts of XMBC. My desire for Cobber is for it to be a viable alternative to the MS Windows/Apple duopoly currently seen in Australasia. I see no valid reason for MS Windows and Apple to have market dominance for computer operating systems in schools, libraries, government offices, business', and private homes. I want to offer people in Australasia a viable option. It will be released in 4 distinct versions (Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, and Pacific Islands) with the possibility of more if demand shows a need with a variety of Desktop Environments. You may be wondering why I have told you all this. Well, I would like to support Koha by providing Koha packages in Cobber's repository. I do not know who to ask and when I found this mailing list I thought I would join and ask here if it is ok or find out who I do need to ask. Just so you know in the process of teaching myself Reprepro and sourceforge I have already downloaded Koha (and other open source projects), created a repo on my worksation, and uplaoded the repo to my sourceforge page. I will be pulling the current repo down and recreating a new version on the same page. I hope to have a great working relationship with Koha and hope that in some way Cobber may be able to help Koha spread in Australasia. Cheers. Michael. A Road Map for Koha

Apologies for cross postings. In October I posted <cid:part1.02090209.00010801@calyx.net.au> about a wish to re-introduce a Road Map of future Koha development. The idea was agreed to at the December <cid:part2.04050201.03020703@calyx.net.au> monthly meeting. A page has now been added to the Koha wiki to document the Road Map: http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Roadmap_for_Koha The page will record work that is proposed for inclusion in future releases of Koha. It will list both proposed features and improvements to Koha's architecture. Before you rush off there, its not yet very interesting. :) It will become more interesting as developers and librarians add their plans and proposals for future releases of Koha. So you are now invited to do just that. If you are progressing work towards the Koha 3.20 or a later release, please add it to the Road Map page so that everyone can see what is coming down the track. statistics with Koha

Dear Colleagues, I would ask if someone who is using koha has built statistics for each cataloger , registering creation of bibliographic records , editing records , creating copies, edition of copies; creation of periodical records, editing of periodical records , deleting records . This by each Cataloger And so know the work developed in the month for each cataloger . I wonder if it is possible to perform with the SQL query builder , built in Koha. Hello everyone! There will be a Koha User's Group meeting on Monday December 1st at the Athenaeum Library, 188 Collins Street, Melbourne at 5.30pm (this was the time requested to enable people to get there after work). Bob or Irma Birchall, from Calyx in Sydney will attend the meeting and report on the International Koha meeting in Argentina. Also with the new Bootstrap facility, it would be helpful to get a run down on that again perhaps. Other Koha technical supporters are most welcome to come too. Does anyone use the Koha statistics report feature? I would love to know how to use them. Would you be willing to demonstrate how to use them at the meeting? Please let me know. Also if you have Koha questions or discoveries to share please speak up. Tea and coffee kindly provided by the Athenaeum Library and I will bring in some Christmas type nibbles. After the meeting you are all welcome to come to dinner at the Il Pom Italian at Federation Square (where we went last time and enjoyed it). This survey, now in its eighth annual iteration, provides an opportunity for libraries to register their perceptions of the strategic automation products they use, organizations that provide these products, and the quality of support delivered. The survey also probes at considerations for migrating to new systems and the level of interest in open source products. As open source software supported both by the general community and by a variety of different service firms, some special considerations apply to Koha. In the libraries.org directory, Koha is represented by a combination of the name Koha and the primary support organization involved. (For example Koha - Catalyst IT, Koha -- ByWater Solutions). Libraries relying entirely on community support or internal resources are represented as Koha - Independent. If there are any special support arrangements not covered by these conventions, just mention that in the comments area of the survey. In this way the survey will be able to reflect both the functionality of the Koha software and the quality of support provided. This model of representing libraries using Koha isn't ideal, but is a pragmatic approach that aggregates all users of Koha while also segregating the different support scenarios. While the numeric rating scales support the statistical results of the study, it's the comments offered that provide the most insight into the current state of library automation satisfaction. Comments will be published in the survey results, redacted to conceal text that might identify the individual or organization responding. The raw data for the survey will not be shared, but reports are available that provide a variety of ways to view results. Please help your fellow librarians who might be in the process of evaluating library automation options by responding to the survey. Any information regarding vendor performance and product quality can be helpful when making strategic decisions regarding automation alternatives. A large number of responses strengthen the impact of the survey and the subsequent report. If you have responded in previous years, please respond again this year to help identify any trends regarding improvement or worsening of the products or support services. Hi, I am forwarding below a post to the Koha general list, from Owen Leonard. Apologies to readers of that list. Owen's post may be important to some users. The Koha project already does not support IE6. The tone of the discussion so far is towards dropping support for IE7 now, and for IE8 when Microsoft will stop supporting it in 2016. If this affects you, advise Owen by emailing him at oleonard(a)myacpl.org . Feel free to copy this list if the points you make are likely to be of general interest. I hope that you and your patrons are able to use modern, standards compliant web browsers. Firefox continues to be recommended for Koha and in our experience Chrome works equally well. While we don't generally test in Internet Explorer, in practice we attempt to fix browser incompatibility bugs reported for IE7 or higher. The benefit, from the developers' point of view, of dropping support for IE7 (released in 2006) and maybe even IE8 (released in 2009) would be our ability to upgrade certain third-party libraries on which Koha is built, enhancing our ability to modernize the interface. However, we don't want to unnecessarily exclude users who are forced to use IE7 or IE8. I would like to solicit your opinions on the matter: - In your use of Koha are you required to use any version of Internet Explorer and if so what version? - In your use of Koha do you work with library patrons who are required to use any version of Internet Explorer? - In your opinion what should be the minimum supported version of Internet Explorer?
