However, it seems to also affect transfers in systems where Independent Branches is not on (if set to holding branch, a checkin doesn't trigger a transfer message back to the owning branch). And it's also used by C4/Search.pm to control the branch description that shows in search results/record displays. The 3.2 syspref description is: Use the checkout and fines rules of (equiv description of home or holding branch) NOTE: This is older than CircControl, but used by some parts of Koha. It will be removed soon. First question, then, is whether there are plans to remove this syspref, as implied by the 3.2 description? And if so, what's going to happen to the other areas that it's now controlling? The holds policy from the patron's home library is used, which, unless it's set to deny ALL holds, will let them place a hold on any item at any library, regardless of that libraries Hold Policy. The root of the problem is using _GetCircControlBranch to generate the $branchcode used for determining the Hold Policy. You can increase this number by adding the sortmax parameter in zebra-biblios.cfg. Putting this value in Koha's zebra config file will make this default value visible and make it easier to increase it if one prefers that. This patch therefore adds the default of 1000 to zebra-biblios.cfg. Does not change any Koha/Zebra behavior. If you want to test it, look for a search in your catalog with >1000 results. Look at the order of the records. Now apply the patch and copy the zebra-biblios.cfg to your zebra directory. Increase sortmax, reindex and search again. We track the item type and item number, but we only track the borrowernumber for the patron and part way through the year the patron's category could change from child to adult - or the patron could be deleted and that will mess with the statistics on circulation/actions based on patron category.
