I would propose we re-engineer Talking Tech by doing the following: 1) Remove all the exceptions that hide/modify the use of the 'phone' notice so that it is once again treated like any other type of notice. 2) Define the 'phone' notice for a given action as the line that is created in the CSV file 3) Have the outbound cron script for Talking Tech gather these notices together into a CSV file, rather than having it generate the notices and CSV file itself. I have attempted to improve the runtime of the Batch Record Modification tool and my enhancement reduces the time to modify a batch of records by an average of 71.44% I discovered the extended runtime was mostly due to the serialisation and de-serialisation of success messages for every modified record. I have changed the reporting on this feature to only record and display messages for errors which improved the time of modification for x records from 233.2 seconds to 66.6 seconds, saving 166.6 seconds. This patch adds a Z39.50 Linker which searches for authority links on a remote server. If a matching authority is found, it's imported in the local database for linking with the current biblio record. If no matching authority was found on the remote server, the Linker falls back to a local authority search. Configuration : * The option "Z39.50 Server" is added to the LinkerModule preference. You must choose this to use the new Linker. * The preference LinkerZ3950Server is required and specifies which server to use for linking. It must contain the "name" of the server, as defined in the z3950servers table. * You can set the "local_first" option in the LinkerOptions preference to force the Linker to search for authorities in the local database first. If no local authority match was found, the Linker falls back to a remote Z39.50 search. This patch depends on code added in Bug 11299, and must be applied after it.
