It looks like this is related to the size of the picture. I was using cropped screenshots, so nothing too high quality. Since they are not wrapped inside any HTML element it can be hard to customize with CSS/JS. This is extra confusing for users who have their username generated in the firstname.surname form. An exception will be raised if the methods are called without an instantiated object.
