You should be able to get yourself back under the ($5) noissues limit without having returned the overdue item. The fines.pl script cannot handle this, and will result in reapplication of fines to the account. The status of a still-accruing overdue fine is 'FU' (for Fine Updating?). Payments should not be allowed against this accounttype. Alternately, staff will have to learn to watch the screen, as Owen suggests.
