SearchMember() is used in most places where a patron search is performed, and does not respect Extended Attributes, branchcode/categorycode limits or paging of results. It does, however, return exact matches for cardnumbers quickly, making it very desirable for Circulation. Search() is only used on members/member.pl to do an in-depth search of patrons. It makes use of SQLHelper.pm, which gives us support for Extended Attributes OR branchcode/categorycode limits (can't have both, it seems) and results paging. It's easy to add new fields from the borrowers table to search. Koha should really only have 1 search routine for searching for patrons. This routine should support Extended Attributes, branchcode/categorycode limits and pagination. Exact matches on cardnumber OR unique, searchable Extended Attributes should return immediately, without having to go through the full search routine. The query could be passed to a "pagify" subroutine, along with the starting and ending values, and the modified query returned. Since the staff can't do these thing without renewing the patron's card shouldn't the patron be blocked in the OPAC as well? The result is that fine in days does not work at all (you can setup rules, but it does nothing) Step to reproduce: Koha > Admin > circ rules > set 1 day fine every day of overdue for default rule Issue a book return date last week check-in the book => no debarment is set The following patch will fix all of those problems by : * updating borrowers.debarred to a date field (instead of tinyint). It contains the limit of the debarment * changing API of DebarMember and UpdateBorrowerDebarred to pass a date * display debarrdate where applicable. We're a small company that provides a hosted ILS, Apollo, to small and medium-sized public libraries in the US. We're not open-source, but we do strongly believe in open interchange: library data belongs to libraries, and shouldn't be used as a hostage to keep libraries chained to their automation systems. Far too many systems do treat their customers this way. There are even Koha consortia which are charging their librarians multi-thousand dollar extraction fees just to get their own data out! We've developed what we call LDIF (library data interchange format), which is a W3C XML Schema that defines a way for library data to be stored and exchanged in a vendor-independent manner. We believe this is an important capability which has been missing in the library world. Any Apollo library is able to generate an LDIF file at any time, and download (practically) everything that Apollo knows about their library in a single, well-defined file, complete with the schema. Ideally, that file would be easily importable into any other ILS. Part of making LDIF "real", of course, is engaging other ILS vendors. The Koha Community seemed like the place to start. Is there anyone working on the Koha project who would have an interest in developing support for this fledgling standard? And of course, in working with you, there will likely be changes to be made to LDIF, which will make it better for everyone.
