We have 6 college libraries all marked as closed in weekends, with users permitted to borrow (let’s say for simplification) a maximum of 15 items from across the 6 libraries. (All loan rules are the same at all 6 college libraries). All users belong to one of these libraries. Our new kit-loaning library has opened 24/7 and it offers a loan of one laptop and loans of up to three accessories (headphones etc.) with a loan period of 4 hours. No users belong to this library. Policy is to allow loans from this library to be in addition to loans from the normal 6 libraries. Having circcontrol set to either the rules from where the item is from, or the library the user is logged in at both fail to work as (even ignoring the new library) the maximum loans increases from 15 overall to 15 per library (6*15=90)- totally unacceptable here. The only option for now has been to set circcontrol to use the rules applicable to the library the user is from. This fails in two ways. Loans from the 24/7 library made at weekends are being pushed out as due on Monday (as all the libraries consulted for rules are marked as closed). Additionally the only way to allow the loans from the 24/7 library to be additional to the 15 maximum, has been to increase the maximum loans to 15+4=19. Users can of course now take 19 items out from the six main libraries, as the loan entitlement is not being compartmentalized. Option 1. We continue to put up with what we have. Option 2. We set up a second instance of Koha for only the 24/7 library, or source another product to manage loans from that library. Option 3. Move circcontrol to the library level, leave the 6 libraries with circcontrol at each library using the rules for where the user is from, and lower the maximum loans to 15 at each library. Change circcontrol for the 24/7 library to use circcontrol set to use the rules for the library the user is logged in at (or possibly where the item is from). With the calendar for the 24/7 being consulted now the weekend loan period would be right, and the loans maxima should also be right (15 from the six college libraries plus 4 for the 24/7 library using the different circcontrol. It seems that home libraries, locations and item types are all facets that should be completely available regardless of the first page of results, especially when you click "Show more". The problem is, that while this can be used to translate the message, it doesn't provide true multi-language support. It's very common to provide the GUI on the self checks in mulitple languages here, so there is a need for translating the errors etc. sent by Koha as well. The SIP specification provides means to send a language code that would allow us to implement this properly. Today a patron is not allowed to check out already checked out material when using the automat (sip).(In the staff client you can override this if you scan the barcode). There are several reason for allowing this: Case 1: If a patron, patron no.1, fails to deliver the item properly (the item is still on loan on his account) and the item is placed on the shelf where it belongs. The next patron(no.2) who picks it up and borrows it, can in this way correct the error of patron no.1 without contacting the staff. Today we risk that patron no.1 will receive fines even though he has delivered it. Or even worse patron no.2 has borrowed it (failed to see og ignored the message on the automat) and patron nr. 1 gets the fines. Case 2: If a patron has an item on loan that belongs to another branch, has no renewals left and wishes to borrow it again. He will be able to do so if there are no one on the waiting list. Because we have many branches that are open without any staff present, this feature is even more important. There is no clear separations between them, and the authentication is not modular, making it increasingly harder to maintain and/or introduce no authentication integrations. I was experimenting on this for a while, and I managed to put together few commits in a branch. It started as a proposal, but turned out to be working in _most_ of my tests. here more details: I completely removed any need for CGI and CGI::Session while maintaining a fork-exec aproach to the scripts. (This made it easier to implement Koha::Middleware::Session, Koha::Session::DB and ::KohaCache) Koha::Middleware::Session inject a session object in the Plack request, and invoke Koha::Auth if any authentication tokens are available. Koha::Auth has a list of modules which will be invoked in turn and could be enabled/disabled plack.psgi is changed as well, it has enabled the new Middleware and the applications used are no longer Plack::App::CGIBin but Koha::Middleware::App. here few of the things i want to do to simplify the interaction with the current "legacy" code: I didn't change the scripts or any other module at all, instead I tried to hijack C4::Auth methods to rely on Koha::Session and Koha::Auth. This make it simple to switch back to the previous plack.psgi OR using apache and the normal cgi-bin. authentication should happen upfront, before the script is even started. script will have to verify authorization. authentication MUST be modular, possibly having different systems cooperate. (Some serious discussions must be around this point, especially about accounting and authority) what needs to be done: permissions should be reintroduced. right now permissions are read for the user and set in the template, but no checks are perform on requests. (should be fairly simple to do) reintroduce the code related to shib, cas and any other. more testing, especially for the installer (there is lots of code regarding the web installer which isn't there anymore) -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
