The rules defining this are entered into smart-rules.pl, and stored in the branch_item_rules, default_branch_item_rules and default_branch_circ_rules tables in the database. Patron A checks out the item that does not allow holds (Item A). Patron B then places a title-level (next available) hold on that title. Patron B must wait until Item B is available for their hold to be filled, as per our policy. When Patron A looks at their account in the OPAC, they'll see that Item A is on hold, and cannot be renewed. Similarly, when a staff member views their record in the staff client, they will see the item as unrenewal for the same reason (pending hold). When Patron A returns Item A, a message will come up to the staff member checking in that there is a hold on this item for Patron B. This is incorrect, since Item A cannot be held, and Patron B must continue to wait until Item B is available to have their hold filled. For example: * serial (biblionumber, subscriptionid) * subscription (biblionumber) * subscriptionhistory (biblionumber, subscriptionid) * suggestions (suggestedby, managedby, rejectedby) * branch_transfer_limits (toBranch, fromBranch) and many, many others. Explicit foreign keys should be added for several reasons: * to promote better data integrity and to expose cases where the application code makes unwarranted assumptions about the database structure * to allow cascading updates and deletes in some cases * to make it easier for external reporting tools to correctly identify relationships between tables * to make use of an ORM more effective There are some arguments against this: * a complete set of FKs may decrease database speed (on the other hand, the Koha schema already uses a bunch of FKs) There are some implementation details to consider: * the database creation scripts may need some reordering * in some cases, a database update to add an FK may require dealing with rows that do not meet the new constraint. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are the QA contact for the bug.

Attached patch is my first try at it. Comments welcome. I wrote it for my employee (Mathematisches Institut der Universität Bonn) and it's targeted towards using Koha for acquisitions at our Institute's library (Fachbibliothek Mathematik der Universität Bonn). However, it seems to also affect transfers in systems where Independent Branches is not on (if set to holding branch, a checkin doesn't trigger a transfer message back to the owning branch). And it's also used by C4/Search.pm to control the branch description that shows in search results/record displays. The 3.2 syspref description is: Use the checkout and fines rules of (equiv description of home or holding branch) NOTE: This is older than CircControl, but used by some parts of Koha. It will be removed soon. First question, then, is whether there are plans to remove this syspref, as implied by the 3.2 description? And if so, what's going to happen to the other areas that it's now controlling?
