Those are both not very common in Germany and possibly other countries. A lot of our libraries use their own custom classification schemes so the call number splitting is something that should be individually configurable. One option would be using a regex expression, that can be set in the layout additional to the standard splitting offered by the checkbox. This feature will create a new field in the items table: checkin_alert, to allow librarians to have arbitrary alerts displaying at checkin. These alerts will be printable. How the SQL-statements should be logged remains to be seen, but currently simply presenting very simple formatting we can discuss about. SQL libraries (DBI, DBIx) also allow logging SQL-statements but lack the fine-grained control Log4perl offers. This is rather undesired especially for 'commandline' scripts such as cronjobs. A solution to this is to lazyLoad loggers when they are really needed.
