Bug 19263 introduced a feature that uses an authorized value to set up ranges of auto-incremented control numbers in bib records. Could something similar be used for card numbers? The reason being that you can't provide user/password system preferences for an automatic login, like you can for the self-checkout (SCO) counterpart. Our use case is the following: we are already using the SCO module with automatic login of the dedicated SCO patron, and our actual patrons identify themselves via their cardnumber. While they can obviously check in their books via the SCO module, we'd like to streamline the process such that they don't have to login with their cardnumber in order to simply return a book. Not everyone wants to see everyone else's reports, some are similar but are not. Some are for superlibrarians to test, and are not ready for use. It would be great if we could specify groups and even subgroups in the permissions that the staff could access, or specify all groups. All groups should be the norm for a superlibrarian. Libraries use authority data coming from official sources (like LoC, SUDOC, etc.) or enrich their locally created authority records with standard identifiers (e.g. viafId, ISNI, Wikipedia). This information is linked to the bibliographic record by the Koha-specific subfield $9 which is illegal in terms of MARC 21 and does not mean anything outside of the local Koha ecosystem. A record moved out of a local Koha catalogue (downloaded, exported) loses the linked-data connection to other objects (like authors, subjects etc.), which are then identified only by strings. To make this connection between bibliographic access point and objects identified by universal identifiers more permanent outside of the local environment, the standard MARC 21 $0 subfield could be used. (UNIMARC has to be examined - $3 subfield?) The required changes would include at least: C4::AuthoritiesMarc::merge function, the authority plugin, some new system preferences, optionally display templates and also a script to update the existing biblio records. New possible system preferences needed: - switch the feature on/off - source of the standard IDs (possibly different for different biblio fields?) For example, I have 27 libraries, and 8 of them follow the same set of rules that are different from the defaults. So, what if instead of cloning these special rules to 8 different libraries (and who knows how many other duplicated sets of rules there are), we defined a set of rules for a library group. If the library is part of that group, it goes by those rules. I don't know if we want to use the same library groups that are already defined in the libraries and groups, or if we want to create a unique Circ rule group. Because, there is always the chance that one or more of the libraries in the 8 that are grouped together by affiliation or region could have a slightly different set of rules. However, I think rules by groups would make managing rules far less complicated than managing groups of cloned rules. I'm not sure if I should have piggybacked this off of the previous ticket, but I'd like to open the discussion on bug 18856 again. We'd like the ability to have patrons cancel their holds once they have been pulled by staff and are awaiting pick up. Our previous catalogue (Bibliocommons) allowed the cancellation of holds once it as captured. This feature was well like and used by our patrons who had determined they didn't need/want the item any longer. This gave the perception that they were freeing up the item for the next person. We have fielded a number of grumpy comments since our migration about the inability to perform this functionality. >From my perspective, if we're allowing patrons to place holds and cancel them before they're captured, we should offer the ability to cancel them up until they're picked up. At the very least, this should be a system option to allow the Library to choose whether they'd like to enable this functionality. Even if the implemented functionality is a placebo for the user ... offer them the ability to cancel the hold and have it remove from their account. As long as optically it appears they've cancelled the hold, there is no harm. If desired, a report could be run to allow staff to pull those items from the shelf if needed. I'm more than happy to elaborate if needed on this, but I feel that this is a feature that is currently missing from Koha that would be a boon to customer service.
