MARC Status

Greetings: I am brand new to this list so please forgive any ignorance. I am looking at the Koha system and was wondering if someone could advise on the status of the MARC integration. I read from the FAQ's that it was very close to be completed and am interested in where the developers are at with it. Is it possible to import more than one record at a time? Thanks in advance. Just a clarification but in MARC 21, author should be mapped to 100$a, not 245 which is for Title information. 245$c is for responsibility statement and may contain author information, but it may also contain lots of other information. It is not normally indexed with author information either. Unless you can map the same information to two locations, put Author in 100$a and leave it out of 245. Call for testers

Now that we're closing in on our 2.0.0 release (maybe in February according to the 2.0 release manager), and we need to start looking to the future. One of the things we really want to focus on for the next release is a major rewrite/refactor. If we do this right, we can get Koha test-infected, and make the development run even more quickly than it already does. To really make this work, we're going to need to get a lot better at testing. I think there are two keys to this. First, I'd like to recruit someone to work as the testing manager. (I need to come up with a better title than 'manager' -- I'm afraid it scares people off.) Second, I'd love to find a couple more developers with some solid testing background, who are willing to volunteer their time on a cool FOSS project. The manager will need to be able to help outline unit and functional test suites, plan and run useability and acceptance tests, and coordinate with the 2.2 release manager to ensure that 2.2 is squeaky clean when it gets released. The developers should be solid Perl hackers who really grok testing. Being able to create tests from developer input, user input, system docs, and bug reports is going to be a key to making this process work correctly. Hi, I think I found a (minor?) problem with the MARC->Koha mapping. E.g., in MARC21, author should not be mapped to item 245$a, but rather certain subfields in 245 concatenated together. another question about the MARC editor

Hi, I have another user question for the MARC editor. I don't know if it is a bug or it is because I don't know how to use it correctly (or perhaps I have not done the setup correctly). After editing the MARC21 structure (with 2 remaining errors - branch and homebranch unmapped, but I think these are ok for my testing purposes), I tried to enter an item. I successfully got to the Items screen and entered an item. However, the item does not appear in the catalogue. Is this because I have not set up the MARC structure or links correctly? This one is a true nightmare ! In fact, at the moment, you can't enter such a schema. The only way to do this it to "reorder" fields and use the | separator. In a future version, we could add a way to "duplicate" a field in the GUI. Note it's most a GUI problem than a DB one. The db should manage it without problems.
