Write good bug report titles and commit messages

Hi devs, I would like to do a little reminder about the bug report titles and commit messages. For bugs: The bug report title must shortly tell what the *bug* is, whereas the commit messages must tell what the *fix* does. Sometimes they are not related at all. For instance: - bug report titles: "Feature X is not working correctly when Y is enabled", "Click on button 'Save' does not save the record", "Saving stuff on screen X does not work", "This script generates error logs", "Mystake is misspelled in this script", "Behaviour X no longer work as expected" etc. - commit messages: "Fix Feature X when Y is enabled", "Make sure behaviour is correct when button is clicked", "Remove warnings from this script", "Correct spelling of mistake in this script", "Fix regression on behaviour X" etc. For enhancements / new feature: We could have the same title and commit messages in some cases. - bug report titles: "Add new awesome feature", "Add the ability to do that", "Code is duplicated in method Koha::Stuff->method" - commit messages: "Add new awesome feature", "Add the ability to do that", "Remove code duplication in method Koha::Stuff->method" Note that "Address comment #42" is a terrible commit message. Then, I would like to standardize the commit messages a bit. We have "Bug 12345 - ", "Bug 12345: ", "Bug 12345" and "[follow-up]", "(follow-up)", "[QA Followup]", etc. I would suggest: "Bug 12345: you commit message" And reject any commit messages with only "follow-up" (or whatever how it is written), but accept "Bug 12345: (follow-up) same commit message as before" If you forgot something, even if "Bug 12345: (follow-up) This was missing" And QA follow-ups (added by QA team member): "Bug 12345: "(QA follow-up) Add/remove this stuff" I am going to suggest these change during the next dev meetings. If accepted I will change the bug report titles and commit messages before the push during few weeks, then ask authors to do it themselves (patches from new contributors will not be rejected for that reason). Hi All Linode are migrating servers to a new data centre, this will cause an outage for the server that runs bugs.koha-community.org and a few other sites (including download.koha-community.org) They will do it automatically, but I am going to do it today manually so that I can keep an eye on it. Dashboard browser notifications

Do you think we could add browser notifications superpowers to our dashboard? I can't work on it right now, but it would certaintly help me being aware of stuffs I can help with if urgent. Hi all, Is anyone familiar with ./docs/CAS/CASProxy/examples/proxy_cas_data.pl? I get the following error when I try to compile it: Using a hash as a reference is deprecated at ./docs/CAS/CASProxy/examples/proxy_cas_data.pl line 60. This is line 60: my $pgtId = %$hashref->{$cgi->param('PGTIOU')}; It looks to me like it should just be: my $pgtId = $hashref->{$cgi->param('PGTIOU')}; But I'm wondering what that hashref might contain. Could it be a hash? And that's why someone is trying to dereference something there? It's a BibLibre script from 2009, so I'm guessing someone from BibLibre might have an answer? Fwd: Koha Development Setup: Can't access both admin and OPAC sites

Hello everyone, Please I am having a challenge with the development setup of Koha. I am new to Koha but had successfully installed the non-development version of Koha and everything worked out fine. Now I am having some challenges with the development setup using the instructions at https://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/Debian_Jessie_development_setup to setup Koha for development on Debian Jessie. Here are some of my configurations: *Listening Ports* Listen 127.0.1.1:80 Listen 127.0.1.1:8080 #my admin site is on this port Listen 127.0.1.1:8081 #my OPAC site is here Granting Access to the Installation Directory I added the following configuration inside both the *OPAC * site ( 127.0.1.1:8081) and the *Intranet* site (127.0.1.1:8081) *VirtualHost* elements in the */var/koha/koha-dev/etc/koha-httpd.conf* file: <Directory "/var/koha"> Require all granted </Directory> Say the IP address of the koha development server is 192.168.1.70 After following through the instructions, I tried accessing the admin site through another machine on the network, by typing 192.168.1.70:8080 on the browser but the site could not be reached. The same issue with the OPAC site on 192.168.1.70:8081. But I could access 192.168.1.70:80 which returns the Apache2 Debian Default Page. I could also ping the host 192.168.1.70 Please I need help on what I possibly didn't do right. Thanks. Tell others what is waiting for test

Hi devs, Maybe we should advertise a bit more what are the enhancements that we have in our bug tracker waiting for testers. We could then list them in the "what's on in koha-devel" emails ( https://annuel2.framapad.org/p/What_s_on_in_koha-devel) For instance we could list the bug numbers with a quick description of what the enhancement is and why/how it is useful.
