koha-3.00.00 make fails

Hi all, I have downloaded http://download.koha.org/koha-3.00.00.tar.gz and began installing it on Debian/etch (in a Linux vserver environment). 0. FINE: cd koha-3.00.00 1. FINE: perl Makefile.PL 2. FAIL: make : : : Manifying blib/man3/C4::UploadedFile.3pm Manifying blib/man3/C4::BackgroundJob.3pm Manifying blib/man3/opac::opac-dictionary.3pm Manifying blib/man3/serials::member-search.3pm /usr/bin/perl "-Iblib/arch" "-Iblib/lib" fix-perl-path.PL blib /usr/bin/perl "-Iblib/arch" "-Iblib/lib" rewrite-config.PL blib/KOHA_CONF_DIR/koha-conf.xml Bad arg length for Socket::inet_ntoa, length is 0, should be 4 at rewrite-config.PL line 67. make: *** [blib/KOHA_CONF_DIR/koha-conf.xml] Error 255 Any ideas what went wrong and how to fix? Aside: there were a couple of other problems with this "out of the box" debian based install of Koha 3.0 which had to be fixed along the way, e.g. seven missing perl modules and libgd not found. Release Manager : how long (open question)

Hi koha-devel, Chris announced that he planned to release a version every 6 months. I'm for a "time based" release management, that's the same thing. Chris has been elected as RM for Koha 3.4 but what will happend in "6 months" when 3.4 is released ? Will we elect a new RM immediatly for 3.6, that will be RM only for 6 months as well. I don't think it would be a good idea to change the RM every 6 months... So, shouldn't the RM be elected for a duration instead of for a version ? it's an open question, so let's start the thread about that... Some ideas : - 2 years or 3 major releases, the 1st that happend - 2 years - 1 year, that can be continued once (ie : after 1 year : vote to confirm the RM. Authority merge

Hi developers, I have a question on the update of biblio records after changing an authority. The 3.0 / 3.2 code in authorities.pl/AuthoritiesMarc.pm apparently replaces the complete MARC field in the biblio record (say 700) with the report tag of the authority record (say 100 for PERSO_NAME). This means that if I have an additional subfield e.g. 4 (relator code) in the biblio record with such an authority, an update of the authority record (without such a relator code) simply discards such extra subfields on the biblio side. My question is: Are we misunderstanding MARC in my library and should we always put the relator code on the authority side, or is this code doing something unintentional ?? If the first is true and I would have two separate relator codes for one authority, should I then make one authority record per relator code? It seems somewhat odd.. If the latter should be the case, I could write a bug report and submit a patch for it. Thanks for your time. Marcel

[koha] mail configuraiton help

Hello all. I have been running koha in my server for about 10 libraries. Each of them have a different public IP for accesssing. What are the things that I need inorder to use the mail functionality for sending overdue notices and other related functions? Is there some step by step guide for it? We already have a mail server at some other IP address, so is it possible to use that server as mail server for koha as well or is it necessary that the machine that has koha server, should also have mail server configured in it? mysqldump & restore issues

Hello all, I'm trying to create a mirrored failover server with data from our live Koha. In order to do so, I'm using *mysqldump* and *mysql* for backup and restore. I've discovered a troubling problem and I can't determine the cause. I run this command to backup the live server: *mysqldump --single-transaction -ukoha -p koha > /home/koha/KohaServerBackups/koha.`/bin/date +\%Y\%m\%d\%H\%M\%S`.sql* This seems to work correctly (and very quickly! 1.7 GB database exports in 2 min) Then, I run this command: *mysql -v -ukoha -p koha < /home/koha/KohaServerBackups/backupFileName.sql* This also seems to work, as I receive no warnings or error messages. I'm exporting from a 3.00.05.001 system and importing to a 3.00.05.003 system, so I then run the *$KOHA_SOURCE/installer/data/mysql/updatedatabase.pl* script. Relevant specs: MySQL version: mysql Ver 14.12 Distrib 5.0.51a, for debian-linux-gnu (i486) using readline 5.2 OS: Debian Lenny Failover server is virtual, running on VirtualBox 3.2.8, on an Ubuntu 10.4 host. All GUI functions of the Koha failover server seem to operate correctly, but when I run *mysqlcheck -ukoha -p koha* the check fails on koha.biblioitems with the following error message: mysqlcheck: Got error: 2013: Lost connection to MySQL server during query when executing 'CHECK TABLE ... ' If I try mysqldump, I get the same error, but it is more specific, reporting that it falls on row 41536. If I check /var/log/syslog, I see this http://pastebin.com/YuuFBHry "InnoDB: Database page corruption on disk or a failed file read of page 58164", etc. Both mysqlcheck & mysqldump work without error on the live server, so I'm thinking that something must be happening to the data during the export or import that corrupts the InnoDB data, but this is speculation, since I'm not a MySQL expert. Has anyone seen behavior like this? Proposal to change phone and email language on patron

Hi all, I was talking with some librarians today and they were wondering if we could change the language on the patron record. Instead of saying Phone (home) could it read Phone (primary)? This suggestion came from the fact that many people now have only a cell phone and if you enter that number in the Phone (cell) box you don't see it on the transit slips or the patron record quick view on the left. This suggestion carries over to the email addresses as well. I recommend we use Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary instead of Home, Work, Cell so that the librarians and patrons can decide what's most important for the patron. What do you all think? Anyone have any strong feelings either way? I will gladly make the change if others think this makes sense, but I wanted to bring the question to you all first. Thanks Nicole C. Engard

The work on bibliografic relationships (RFC 3.4 Analytic Record support)

Hi to all, as I say, I have a sponsor to develop this RFC. Savitra Sirohi wrote here that want to do the work in Oct 2010. I can also work on this RFC in Oct 2010, but also later. Probably aslo one person from ByWater has a task on this RFC (Ian Walls?) Are there others developers ? I think we need to start to coordinate ourselves. Do we need a bug on bugzilla ? A specific git server / branch ? How to develop in parallel ? In Italy all Unimarc z39.50 server use embedded fields. -- I like the idea to have all relation in SQL tables but with the option to insert them into MARC data.
