koha-3.00.00 make fails

Hi all, I have downloaded http://download.koha.org/koha-3.00.00.tar.gz and began installing it on Debian/etch (in a Linux vserver environment). 0. FINE: cd koha-3.00.00 1. FINE: perl Makefile.PL 2. FAIL: make : : : Manifying blib/man3/C4::UploadedFile.3pm Manifying blib/man3/C4::BackgroundJob.3pm Manifying blib/man3/opac::opac-dictionary.3pm Manifying blib/man3/serials::member-search.3pm /usr/bin/perl "-Iblib/arch" "-Iblib/lib" fix-perl-path.PL blib /usr/bin/perl "-Iblib/arch" "-Iblib/lib" rewrite-config.PL blib/KOHA_CONF_DIR/koha-conf.xml Bad arg length for Socket::inet_ntoa, length is 0, should be 4 at rewrite-config.PL line 67. make: *** [blib/KOHA_CONF_DIR/koha-conf.xml] Error 255 Any ideas what went wrong and how to fix? Aside: there were a couple of other problems with this "out of the box" debian based install of Koha 3.0 which had to be fixed along the way, e.g. seven missing perl modules and libgd not found. I get the digest, so i am only able to respond now. I want to report one failure, and an eventual success (using a different route...) The failure: i was unable to deploy Koha to my regular account with a shared hosting service (specifically, hostmonster.com) i don't remember any problems with the make process, however, i had issues with getting the hosting to work...i don't even think i was using virtual hosts, i wanted to first get at least the INTRANET running, but the only thing i could use was changes to .htaccess files, since i don't get access to Apache's config directly. Koha had problems finding the Perl modules, specifically it did not pick up environment variables pointing to their location i was not very smart at that point with different approaches, so after trying for a while, i chose another route... Success: Since i was determined to host on the Internet, i basically decided to get my "own server", essentially a slice (at slicehost.com) They use virtualization and give you a choice of OS, ample bandwidth, and for all practical purposes, its like your own box, where you are root and can do whatever you like. >From then on, it was like a regular Koha install and a few hours later, it was up and running... i've never gone back and analyzed what went wrong with the shared hosting, but i basically faced one problem after another, so that eventually, i just gave up. But, i think, in theory, it should be possible to do with some changes to the install process. Geolocalization in Koha

Hi! Does anyone ever thought of adding Geolocation[0] to Koha? Probably using also Google Maps API. Having branches spread over a large territory make this very useful, making the records of the searched material more near first in the result list. Is possible to add some heuristics based on what people usually search for on that zone. There are some freely available databases, but also is possible to create and improve one over time, based on location established on registered and logged users, associating it with their IP address. Yes, the previous problem was solved, indeed... I do not understand why I have so many problems installing koha,.. maybe the last years I was too used to Joomla! installations :D So the challenging koha that its concept I so much admire and embrace makes me face another problem. I saw timeouts on sessions that had been active from 3 seconds to 1 hour 43 minutes prior. pianohacker suggested changing session storage from the database to the filesystem, which seems to have fixed the problem. RFC: Modification to Fines System

Here is my problem, and my proposed solution. One of our libraries is requesting a breakdown of payments by day, by account type. That is, they want a report the gives the total amount paid for Late Fees, for Damaged Books, and for Lost Books. Apparently, they have separate money accounts for each. In Koha as it stands, there is no direct way to connect a payment to a particular accountline that was paid. The least invasive idea I have is to add a new column to accountlines ( say, accountno_paid ) for payments. Each payment would then refer to the fine or charge that it was paid against. The largest difference, is that instead of one large payment that runs down the amountoutstanding field for a number of charges, the total payment would need to be broken down into a series of smaller payments, one for each accountno paid on. For example, suppose that a borrower has 3 items with and overdue fine of $5.00 each, and the borrower is paying in full. The current version would create a payment line of $15, and then set the amountoutstanding to $0.00 for each of the 3 accountno's. The revamped system would still set the amountoutstanding to $0.00 for each accountno, but would create three separate payment lines, one for each of the 3 accountno's, and the accountno paid on would be stored in accountno_paid. I don't think this would break any existing reports or functionality. Does this sound like a reasonable solution? Or have I missed something that may solve my problem without code? Kyle, Sounds good to me. This suggestion seems like it could have some powerful long-term potential. By modifying the system in the way you suggest, it would be possible to expand the kinds of payments patrons can make to include arbitrary services (like printing, ILL, class registration fees, etc.). Extended Patron attributes

Can you have more than one extended attribute for a patron? I imported one on Weds and it worked fine, so I did another this morning it completed with no issue but when I select one of the patrons in Koha to view the data it only shows the last imported attribute and if you select edit to fix the first imported attribute there is no data list just the attribute fields. If I save the blanks it deletes the data. I did look at the borrowers attribute table and all the attributes that were imported the first time where deleted???? I guess you need to do all of them at one time? Why is that? Thanks Ed Edward J.
