RFC: USMARC or MARC21?

In some places in koha, the system refers to USMARC. I think it possibly should say MARC21 now. Getting rid of z3950 daemons

Why is the z3950 daemon needed? What steps are needed to get rid of it? Is it possible to run one per server instead of one per koha installation? new script in CVS to manage DB

Hello all, I've added in CVS a misc/rebuildnonmarc.pl script : run this script when you change a link between marc and non MARC DB. catalogue-home.pl

I'm hoping someone can confirm the expected behavior of catalogue-home.pl for me. Our previous system had a lot of flexibility in building queries that combined different terms in complex AND and OR phrases, so I'm getting a little confused when I look at catalogue-home.pl. Tell me if this is correct: title, author, and keyword can all be limited by class. But title, author, and keyword can't be searched in combination. So, for instance, title and author can't be searched together (title keyword 'murder' AND author 'rendell'). And subject can only be searched on it's own. Is that right? What about limiting by branch? There's a commented-out piece of code in the template, but it doesn't work for us if we put in our values. -- Owen ---- Nelsonville Public Library Koha 2.0.0-pre2-R2

Hi, The next version of Koha should be released next week (tuesday or friday). It will be called "2.0.0RC1" and be in the stable tree. The Koha team think the 2.0.0 branch is stable enough now to be used in real world. Note it still has some defaults/bugs, but it's useable. With the 2.0.0RC1 release, a new branch will be created. It will be the "2.0.0 branch". The main trunk will be "open" to new features (some ppl in Esiee are waiting to commit nice things like LDAP auth...). The 2.0.0 branch will be used for bugfixes only. At least 4 libraries are already using Koha 2.0.0 in production : * Nelsonville, Ohio, USA * Dombes Abbey, France * Esiee, Paris, France * Wesford, Grenoble, France and some others are investigating and should adopt Koha soon. Ummm ... Open source is a coalition held together by mutual self-interest. If you ask ten developers, you'll get eleven different road maps ... open source is there to take YOU where YOU want to go - but we expect YOU to put a load of effort into getting there yourself. We're just here to help you because we gain personally by doing so. So. As far as Koha goes, you need to download it yourself. You need to play with it yourself. There'll be a DOC directory, read it. Once you have (or maybe even better if you haven't) understood it, help with writing more and better documentation. Maybe Koha does what you want. Write a personal appreciative email to the guy who wrote the little bit you find useful (find his name and email in the source - don't send it to the list). Maybe Koha doesn't do what you want, or doesn't do it right. Ask (politely!) to the list "why not?". There's plenty of ways to get it added - do it yourself, pay someone else, write a spec for someone else to use as a project ... killer feature ?

Hi, I spoke with Rachel yesterday, and we spoke of something the could be a "killer feature" in Koha. In google, when you type a word wrong and get no or few answers, google says "you could also try somethingAlmostSame" the SomethingAlmostSame being in the DB. In Koha, we could add this feature really easily (1 SQL query get the answer :-) ). I did some testing with the following SQL (on Dombes Abbey DB) : SELECT count( * ) AS total, word FROM marc_word WHERE sndx_word = soundex( "Raner" ) AND word <> "Raner" GROUP BY word ORDER BY total DESC It answers : total <http://127.0.0.1/phpMyAdmin/sql.php?lang=fr-iso-8859-1&server=1&db=dombes_0…> word <http://127.0.0.1/phpMyAdmin/sql.php?lang=fr-iso-8859-1&server=1&db=dombes_0…> 83 Rahner 1 rumeur rahner being the right author name :-) another test (with "Jésu", instead of Jésus) : 245 Jésus 182 Jacques 178 JEA 18 José 15 JOU 12 Joie Note : 1- the SQL query is indexed, so very fast. 2- the major problem being to add this possibility when the search returns less than X results (important GUI coding imho) What do you think of this idea ? YAPS (Yet Another Perl Script)

Hi again, I've added in CVS (misc directory) a script to clean MARC DB when a subfield is removed from the MARC editor : the subfield is NOT removed from DB (to avoid stupid loss of data). This script forever removes unused subfields from the DB.
