Hi I'm having problems with Koha (CVS version) trying to modify properties of a borrower. We're using cardnumber like 00A000. The cardnumber field in the borrower table is reported as a varchar(9) so letters shouldn't be a problem. The fact is, when I try to modify properties, when applying changes, Koha tells me that my cardnumber is invalid ! Is this a local problem ? I've tried with digits only and still had the same problem. By the way, I want to change the mandatory fields in the user info page. Is there a way to change it ? If so where ? Thanks Jerome

Borrower categories

Hi I'm trying to use the borrower categories to change borrowers loan length. I've been looking at the different fields in the categories table but couldn't something suitable. Example : I've got a book itemtype which loan length is set to 7 days. I've got two borrower categories. I want the first one (default) to borrow the book for 7 days (no problem there) but I also want the other borrower category (super-borrowers :) to be able to borrow the same books with a loan length of 3 months. Is there a way I can do it ? Thanks Jerome

Templates

I'm glad to see discussion of the templates, since that's my project right now as well. I took the intranet templates from the 1.9.3 release and did a bunch of clean-up. Here's what I did: - added DOCTYPE declaration where appropriate - added optional closing tags in some cases (</li>, </option>) - converted html tags to lower-case - made sure all attributes are quoted - fixed any minor markup errors I could see I think they're in better shape, hopefully I didn't introduce any errors through all that search-and-replace. I zipped it up and posted it to our site if anyone's interested: http://koha.athenscounty.lib.oh.us/Koha193-intranet-templates_revised.tgz I think we still need to work to make it easier to adapt and write custom templates. A couple people have mentioned the idea of producing 'skeletal' versions of the templates, maybe just listing all the available variables, form structures, etc. I'd love to hear other folks' input on this, including any suggestions for how to proceed. -- Owen ---- Nelsonville Public Library Koha 1.9.3

Unrequiring requirements

A couple of requests from Nelsonville: We'd like to *un*require the enry of alternate contact information. We'd like to be able to add and update member records without entering data for alternate contact (it'd be nice to have this be a system preference I guess). Currently we ask for an alternate contact when a patron fills out a registration card but we don't store it in the computer. That means that when we load our patron data into Koha, every record will lack that information. We want to be able to update information in those old records without being forced to dig up the paper form in a file somewhere. We'd also like to be able to add juvenile patron records without making them a 'child' of another record. I see that you can 'Add Adult' and then change the membership category. Is that the best alternative? Change the template to say 'Add Patron' and leave it at that? -- Owen ---- Nelsonville Public Library Koha 1.9.3

Catalogue search and MARC

In 1.9.3, if you've got MARC-support enabled, when you click the 'Catalogue Search' link on the intranet home page you're taken to the MARC search page (/cgi-bin/koha/search.marc/search.pl?type=intranet), implying that the intranet's 'simple' search interface doesn't work with MARC records. But when you're editing MARC item records, you can find yourself searching using search.pl and ending up at catalogue-home.pl, which seems to work fine. Has this been left out because something's broken which I can't see? Or because it's being worked on? -- Owen ---- Nelsonville Public Library Koha 1.9.3

z39.50 Search

Hello Paul, I'm testing z39.50 search in Koha and having problems. It does not seem to work as it does in Koha-1.2.3. First, I think it's supposed to search at the specified z39.50 server. If I add serveral z39.50 servers in Koha, how can I tell Koha to search using specific z39.50 server? Secondly, can I search a z39.50 server using keyword, title, author as in 1.2.3?
