RFC: New System Preference to Determine which 'Types' and associated icons to display in advanced Search

Hi all, It seems like every library has a different definition of what they want to display as 'Type' limits in the advanced search area. The API is currently flexible to support any defined indexes, but customizing this beyond the default itemtypes currently requires editing of the advsearch.tmpl templates -- not horrible, but still kinda annoying. I propose a new syspref that allows the user to specify either 'itemtypes' (default) or any codes from authorised_values to be the limits in place of itemtypes (so for example, ccode). This would allow every library to define their own authorised-values, and then use those as search limits in advsearch.tmpl, without any template modifications. It's a fairly trivial addition, and if we default to itemtypes, won't affect any existing Koha installations. Thoughts? Status of Debian and Koha

Hi, I'm pleased to announce that most of Koha dependencies (as listed in Makefile.PL) are present and up-to-date in Debian. The only exceptions are: * XML::RSS: the package libxml-rss-perl is outdated but its maintainer has just accepted that the package will be maintained by the Debian Perl Group. So it should be ok very soon. * Zebra [and Koha itself]: they will need more work According to a recent post on this list, zebra seems to require a more recent version of ZOOM (or at least of libyaz) than the one currently in Debian: Makefile.PL (from Koha) requires ZOOM >= 1.16 that works with libyaz2 2.1.48. Both ZOOM 1.16 and libyaz2 2.1.48 are on my webpage and in Debian experimental. But newer versions seem to be required. There is good hope here again that we will be able to upload an up-to-date yaz package in a few weeks. Next step: packaging zebra and Koha... Koha 3.0 Stable Release Plan

Hi folks, I've done an audit of the outstanding bugs in Bugzilla and have found 39 are marked as blocker, major, or critical: http://tinyurl.com/5hysmf There are an additional 157 marked 'normal': http://tinyurl.com/5apjsy Galen and I discussed the blocker, major, critical issues and concluded we could address them with a concerted effort before Monday, June 16th. I'd like to set that as the date for releasing 3.0-stableRC1, then do a string freeze, to allow translators to wrap up any changes to translations, and then a final 3.0-stable on July 1. I do request that those of you using and programming Koha take a look at the outstanding bugs in both categories, and flesh out any issues in more detail where you can -- and if you feel a bug in the 'normal' category should be prioritized, please speak out. Thanks to everyone who's contributed, even in small ways, to the major improvements to this new version of Koha. RFC: Feature to automatically email account details to patrons, upon account creation.

Hi All, Lloyd and I have been discussing a feature to automatically email account details to patrons upon account creation. The primary details are the user's userird and password. The feature will need to have the ability to manage (eg: add/edit/ save) an account-creation email - per branch. (As each branch will potentially have differing contact information etc) When a user is created by a Koha Admin, an email will be sent to that user's email address - depending on their homebranch value. There may be a few sysprefs needed for this feature, but initially just the one will suffice - something like... autoEmailPatronDetails = 'OFF | WorkEmail | HomeEmail | AltEmail' --- A related, but separate feature we have been discussing is... A Feature to populate the opac-userid and opac-password fields with defaults - if they are left blank on account creation 2 sysprefs could handle this feature, perhaps... autoAddOPACUserid = 'OFF | Cardnumber | WorkEmail | HomeEmail | Random' etc autoAddOPACPassword = 'OFF | Cardnumber | WorkEmail | HomeEmail | Random' etc Any comments or criticism peoples? DBD::mysql install error

I am working on a fresh install of Debian 4 trying to install DBD::mysql First problem, the file would not install. Evidently the mysql_config file that lives in /usr/bin did not get installed with the mysql-server install. I copied the file from a working Ubuntu 7.10 installation. Hello, I know this i very late but since the solution never came up and I has similar problems I decided to write my findings. In my case all I had to start the zebraqueue daemon: sudo -u ${KOHA_USER} misc/bin/zebraqueue_daemon.pl as described in the INSTALL.debian and not in the INSTALL document. need help in expiry date

Hi, I am using koha 2.2.9 and I want to know is there any check on expiry date and joining date when adding a patron. I find out that user(admin) can save expiry date less then the joining date. there should be a check of date to restict the user to add the expiry date not less then the joining date. If a user add the date of joining "12/02/2008"then the expiry date should be greater or equal to the joining date. If any body has done this please forward. Regards, Zahid
