I'm gonna ping walter@katipo and see if he can compile H:T:P on his OSX-10.5 boxes MJR: can you replicate it easily on another 10.5 box? PS: they (read: OSX boxes) can be tricky to set up LAMP/WAMP? stuff on for new admins, I got veeeery close to getting a koha3 running on my OSX after a few weeks of futzing (Ryan says it can be done ;), but gave into a deb VM instead. On a final note, I think some of the newer features in H:T:P are (when proven stable) going to really help bring the templates to a level of cleanliness and readability that most of the other areas of code are now looking (thanks everyone) Anyone else on the list have a 10.5 box to have a go at this? $ cpan HTML::Template::Pro Mason.

Item type images in opac-user.tmpl

A recent change to opac-user.tmpl displays the item type image in place of the book cover if all enhanced content preferences are turned off: <img src="" alt="" title="" /> But further down in that template the item type image may be displayed again: <td><img src="" title="" alt="" /> </td> Couple of questions: why should the item type image only be a fallback for book covers? Is there any reason not to do both? And why not show the item type image when item-level_itypes is turned on? Shouldn't that be checking for noItemTypeImages? On the way to the Debian package

Hi, I think all Koha dependencies are in Debian now (until you add new ones ;-) ). So I started to work on koha packaging itself. My work can be see here: http://git.debian.org/?p=collab-maint/koha.git;a=summary (more exactly here: http://git.debian.org/?p=collab-maint/koha.git;a=shortlog;h=refs/heads/wip ) For now, I work on the 'wip' branch that have frequent rebase. So, do not merge this branch with any other work please. On the way to create the package, I find several things that I would like to see upstream (instead of a diff for the Debian package). This is: - support for DESTDIR at install time - support for the absence of the koha user and group at install time - fix permissions and shebang line when needed - strange file to remove In fact, these are all my changeset but the last (which has debian work in progress, not ready to be commited upstream) So, can you review these changesets and apply them (or something similar) or tell me what is wrong with them ? Another problem of the current code is that all manpages generated from koha perl modules are invalid. They are missing the required head lines. I put in http://www-id.imag.fr/~danjean/lintian.txt the warnings of the lintian tool (automatic debian tool to check package quality). Do you think it is better to fix these doc (ie adding the few lines in each file) or to remove this doc from the Debian package ? I think that fixing is better, but it cannot be done automatically: a 'brief description' is needed so it must be filled by people knowing the modules. Next, I would like to talk about koha-tmpl/*-tmpl/prog/"lg-LG" directories. I see two things: - there are lots of duplicated files and directories. In the Debian packaging, I'm trying to add a 'common' directory and add symlink from the lang directories. This cannot be done in the upstream git repo as some plateform does not support symlinks. But, if files are really similar (for example all libs/ and js/ directories in koha-tmpl/intranet-tmpl/prog/*), they can be moved elsewhere (a common place) and reference in other files could be adjusted ? - koha-tmpl/*-tmpl/prog/"lg-LG"/{lib,js} contains version of other softwares already packaged by debian (such as libjs-jquery or tinymce2 for example). The final debian package will need to use these packages and not duplicate the code by embeding another version. So, I would like to know * if these codes of other applications have been modified (I hope not) * where they are called from (so that I can change to call debian package codes) It all for now. Hi all, Some of you may know that I've been working on a web based cataloging editor called ‡biblios. Koha import problem

Hello, I've been able to import data from our old library system to Koha by uploading directly into the underlying mysql tables. That includes the marc data as well as the regular data tables. However, something about the ordering (I'm assuming) of the marc tags causes the search functions to not work properly. When I go into a record for editing and resave it through the web interface, the problem is corrected and the search functionality works. Does anyone know if there is a way to programmatically correct disordered Marc records, through a perl script or otherwise? Or do you have any other suggestions? My version of Koha is 2.2.9 running on Linux. Thanks for your time, Jason

Koha 3.00.00 debian install - a few minor observations

Hi all, I have completed a successful install of Koha/3.00.00 on Linux Deb (etch) running as a Linux vserver guest. My thanks and appreciation to all who contributed to making the installation process much easier and far more fool-proof than previous versions of Koha. I appreciated the final web-based configuration step. That allowed me (the sys admin) to hand over a completed install to the librarian and let her configure library thingies the way she wanted. My guess is that the deb-based install will be the easiest for the Linux crowd. Here are a few notes I made during the installation process. Note that the install was done on a *very* barebones instance of debian linux, with only a minimal number of packages installed to get the guest host to boot up. This is why there may have been some environmental differences from what one would normally expect in the base system. * debian package install is a good start and worked well, except libgd was not installed on my system: would be good to detect this and alert the sysadmin SOLUTION: sudo apt-get install libgd2-xpm-dev * cpan Perl package install worked except for 7 missing packages: SOLN: sudo cpan Email::Date GD HTML::Scrubber SMS::Send Text::CSV_XS Text::CSV Text::Iconv Of course, the GD problem was related to my not having libgb2 installed. * several attempts were made by debian apt to install and startup mysql 5 server, which we ignored since we already have a mysql 5 server that we can connect to * for the Koha install itself, the Perl method of make; make test seems wasteful: it copies some 145 MB of perl sources unnecessarily into blib then to /usr/share, and it takes a looooooong time. I suppose the upside is reproduceability and the ease of redoing parts of the make if required. * the instructions did not mention when to create the user 'koha': sudo adduser koha * we opt for having two domains (one for OPAC and one for admin) instead of using ports 80 and 8080. It was trivial to affect this change in the koha-httpd.conf file. Kudos on the Apache side of things :) All in all, a very good show. RFC 3.2: AJAX in the staff interface

However, many more areas of the staff (and possibly patron) interface could be improved using AJAX and well-structured web services. Towards this end, LibLime has made patches for AJAX usage on the circulation and issuing rules editor page. These patches make use of new Perl modules, and are based as much as possible on REST principles. MJ: Yes, the AJAX degrades. It even has its own system preference for the circulation screen.
