Hi, I was with SAN Ouest Provence yesterday & I have some good news. The following code should reach head in April : * Borrowers improvements = see previous mail (feb, 17th). * branches identification : a new column has been added in branches. It let the library define a range of IP attached to the library. If defined, then the librarian, when identified, is automatically located to the branch where the IP is. If IP empty, no change in the behaviour. * Reserves improvements : - the librarian can reserve a given item, not only a biblio/biblioitem - many improvements in transfert management - 3 new reports to know "what the library will recieve", "what the library has sent", "what is to get in shelves and put in the transfert car". For all those reports, the library has a button to do something in a single clic (recieve, sent, transfert...) - a new systempreference has been added to remove the reserve after a <<sytempref>> day duration. Everything is done. Some tweaking needed, they should send me all code in a week or two. new database update mecanism

Hello koha-devel, Last week, I explained on #koha I wanted to propose a new database update mecanism [1]. Here is my proposal, I would like some feedbacks before coding... The idea is to simplify communication between developers on database update (data and/or structure). Here follow the main points of the mecanism: - isolated updates that can be executed only once - database self aware about its update level - notification in intranet screen that new updates are available A script update/updater.pl is run from the command line. The steps are: 1. list updates already executed (reading table "updates") 2. list available updates (numeric filenames in update/updates directory) 3. execute available updates that have not been executed yet These are the basics. updater.pl will first say if there are updates to execute. For example: $ updater.pl > 2 updates are missing, choose an option: > > 1. list update details > 2. execute all > 3. execute one by one > > [1] ? updater.pl will write a log on each call. Update files will be Perl files in the update/updates dedicated directory, with numeric only filenames: $ ls -v1 updates > 1 > 2 > 2.1 > 10 About numerotation of updates, on HEAD, updates are named with a single number (1, 2, 10...), on a branch like rel_2_2, updates are named with the last update number on HEAD point a number wich starts to 1 on rel_2_2. MEDIA RELEASE: Join Us In Paris For KohaCon 2006 27 March 2006 The Koha community is excited to announce the first ever Koha Conference to be held in Paris France May 2nd and 3rd 2006. We'd like to extend an invitation to libraries, developers, media and library supporters to attend our first conference. This event is the first formal gathering of the wider Koha community, including developers, users and supporters, since version 1.0 of the world's first Open Source Integrated Library System (ILS), was released in 2000. It provides an opportunity to join together to celebrate achievements to date, and discover more about the Koha ILS. Many of the presentations will focus on what Koha 3.0 will offer the community. The conference will be held over two days in Paris, France. 13 digits isbn

Hello, in 2007, january, the ISBN will be on 13 digits. afaik, it will use the standard vendor code, that for instance is : 978+ (isbn-controldigit) +controldigit re-calculated. Hello, I'm new to the koha-devel list. I work with Cindy at the CCFLS. I had a few items that josh thought I might want to put out there for everyone. We've been working hard on getting our county ready for a transfer over to koha, and I've written a few things that *might* be useful to other koha users. Probably the most useful is a new template theme. It uses a tabs and side-tabs interface that I think is quite intuitive for new users. It's nearly out of what I would consider beta and just needs a few more tweaks. Other than that, I've been transfering our data from our existing ILS using php scripts for the data processing. I'm a huge fan of OO development and have created a number of data-access objects for manipulating the koha database. I'll probably end up rewriting them in perl when 3.0 comes out, as all the objects for working with the marc tables will be useless, and I'll need to be able to use the perl library to access zebra. Also, I've written a few custom reports in php for the county. I don't know how useful they might be for others, but we'll put them out there anyway (once I set up a bit of web space to post them on). Probably the most interesting project (to me) is a firefox extension that adds a toolbar for displaying koha statistics, among other things. I wrote a little perl script that generates an xml file containing stats for each branch in the koha database and the extension pulls it from the server and displays them in the toolbar. I'll probably add koha search functionality to it as well. I'm a bit stymied in my project though, because I can't get the extension to save user preferences (ie. the server's address and the libraries branchcode). If anyone on the list has any experience with firefox extensions, help would be much appriciated. Thats all I've got for now. Kyle IT Technician Crawford County Federated Library System

Joshua Ferraro has revised his document about installing Koha on Debian to accommodate Koha version 2.2.6 and Debian sarge (3.1). Find it on www.kohadocs.org under "System Administration."
