Hi, I'm considering doing a study of open source library software, perhaps to install open source software in one or a few local elementary schools that have no library software, to see whether the software is cost-effective and useful, compared to proprietary software. Does anyone know of any similar studies? That is, - Do you know of any schools that are using open source library software? - Are you aware of any studies of using open source library software (in schools)? - Are you aware of any studies where someone installed open source software in elementary schools (or other organizations) and studied its ease of use, functionaltiy (e.g., cataloging and circulation), and cost compared to other open- and closed-source library systems? problème de migration

Bonjout, je travailles actuellement sur une migration de documents pour notre bibliothèque . je croise des difficultés par rapport à la localisation des exemplaires, apparement, sur la grille de catalogage, tout m'a l'air correct, mais par contre lorsque je vais verifier sur ma base de donnée (dans la table items) certains champs ne sont pas remplis . comme le champs "location", le champs "barcode" et le champs "holdingbranch" . en ce qui concerne la localisation, je me suis rendu compte que dans notre script d'import, le champs 995 $e (localisation de l'exemplaire si je ne me trompe pas ???) n'est pas traitée. donc, dois-je relancer le sript d'import des notices, mais cette fois-ci en prenant en comptele champs 995 $e, ou bien y'a t' il un moyen de corriger les tables grace au script rebuildnonmarc ????? Hi all, Paul, Owen some Katipo folks and I discussed PROG templates on IRC earlier this week. The problem is that for a programmer, it's nice to have a more full-featured template to work with when programming, but for a template maintainer it's difficult to keep up with changes using an already complex template. I think Paul's third suggestion, to improve the useability of the PROG template is the best direction for 3.0. So ... what we need to discuss is what should be included in the PROG to make them easier for a programmer to use while still keeping their function as a template designer framework. Paul has proposed the following: > Every template system could be described by the following elements : > - a header, on top of the page. > - a menu, on top of the page too or on the left. > - a navigator bar, saying what we did before (Koha >> cataloguing >> > serials >> add subscription for example), with link to go "up". > - the main part of the page (the content) > - the footer. > This works for me ... if there are no objections from our template maintainers than I'd say let's work on getting these elements into the PROG templates. Hello Paul, Thanks a lot. I'll try and report it to forum. In the mean time I found on yesterday late night that the new addition of letter generation facilities in KOHA 2.2.4 is not working. It is reporting missing of letter.pl file. And it's really missing. I've just donwloaded the PROG templates owen made, and have some comments. They are not nice. But that's not a problem. they are not supposed to be nice ;-) The main problem, according to me is that they are poor in useability. So, what to do ? we can : - Continue with prog, but I would not be happy at all with this solution - Drop them and go on with default. I would not really be happy with this solution either, as I agree that Koha 3.0 would not be nicer than 2.2 if we don't change the templates ! - Try to improve useability of PROG ? that's probably a way to follow. in my idea, the PROG templates should give a framework for template designers AND, through a stylesheet, be the default templates. My opinion is based on the number of templates the librarian interface has (more than 100). Hello Fiends, Koha 3.0 is in the pipeline. Great news. It'll include an expert MARC editor and the schema has already been designed.I've one question about MARC editor. Is it going to include Leader field (24 characater fixed field)in MARC editor this time? In fact we failed to add leader field in MARC framework in koha 2.2.3.(Although it produces minimum (computer generated) leader data during export) If yoy have an idea about how to add Leader in MARC framework of released koha version (particularly 2.2.3, we've not yet explored 2.2.4) let us know.
