koha 2.2.3 roadmap

Hi, There are some critical bugs fixed on Koha 2.2.2b (mainly in authority management) Plus some improvements. I plan to release a 2.2.3 version at the end of next week. Here is the 1st draft of release notes (everything is not done yet) : BUGFIXES ***** Critical & Minor mixed === ACQUISITION === * adding supplier info to basket.pl (for order printing) === OPAC === * minor fix in subject link (normal view) === CATALOGUE === * (critical) bugfix in authorities : in biblio repeated fields, when you choosed an authority entries, it was copied in all the fields, not only in one. * bugfix in subject link, in normal view === CIRCULATION === * bugfix : checking issuing rules under certain circumstances was buggy. === BORROWERS === * better management of joining & expiry dates : - dates can be manually typed when adding a borrower. - Empty fields are automatically calculated (joining = today & expiry date calculated from borrower category) - Expiry date can be modified * checking expiry date when trying to issue a book & forbidding issuing when expiry date reached. ** IMPORTANT ** This check was not done before. Thus, you may be unable to issue books where you could before. You can update your database borrower by borrower or with the following SQL command on the server : "update borrowers set expiry='2005-31-12'". How to search for items on loan?

Hi, it would be helpful if kohaadmin could search for the items currently on loan. Not just their overall number (as is possible with Reports), and not just the overdue items, but the complete list of the items currently on loan, with the possibility to identify the borrower. I can't see an appropriate field in /cgi-bin/koha/search.marc/search.pl, so I tried to add a link in the Koha-MARC table of correspondences, namely 952z (not existing) to items.issues. Chris Cormack on the Koha users list (thanks Chris!) kindly noted that issues.returndate is perhaps the db field I need, but I could not place such a link in Koha-MARC. Is there any more straightforward way that I am not considering? (Do I need to hack search.pl and add my own query?) Thank you for your suggestions. Giuseppe.

Is there an example of an auto install file with ALL variables &default values documented?

Hi all Please excuse this re-post. It was made to the koha list last week but no one answered so I thought perhaps it can be answered by a developer although it's a simpe user install question. Repost starts.... I installed koha 2.2.2b and noticed that the installer mentioned that you can create a auto install file. I found a short example in scripts/misc which is probably contributed by Paul POULAIN (from the user and the language setting) and have modified that. However this does not seem to be intended to be a definative example of all the options available but seems to be just what Paul used for his setup. For instance installer.pl in interactive mode asked: SELECT SQL FILE Select a file to append to the Koha DB. enter a number. A detailed explanation of the file will be given if you confirm, the file will be added to the DB 0 => FINISHED 1 => authorities_normal_marc21.txt 2 => stopwords.txt but these are not in the auto_install_file example. Short of looking through Install.pm and working out what the variable names and default values are does a Koha developer have a auto_install_file with all options included as an example? Hi everyone, I just wanted to get my 2 cents worth out there before the IRC meeting tomorrow. First a (re)introduction. Russel Garlick Operations Manager Katipo Communications My day to day work is managing website and web application development projects at Katipo. I was responsible for the current Koha web design which was done 3 years ago. I am not precious about it and agree that an update is required. Ok, in the IRC meeting I mentioned that I have a vested interest in the Koha website. Not because of the design, but because one of my other roles is manning the Katipo stand at the various conferences we attend. The conferences that we choose to have a stand at are carefully chosen. We are trying to target the decision makers at libraries. In New Zealand, these people have normally heard of the Koha project, but dismiss it because they think Koha is "free ware" or "shareware" for small libraries with no money. So we spend a lot of effort trying to convince them that this is not the case. And this is the crux of the matter: the feedback I am getting is that if we want to succeed in this matter then the product and the website need to look more professional. Ok so how to go about this? Firstly I think before we put pen to paper, we need to think about what is the purpose of the Koha website? Who is the target audience and what are they after? I would break it up into two main groups: 1) People looking to procure a library system (The Head Librarian, and their IT Manager or CTO) 2) The Koha Community (all the users, developers and enthusiasts) At the moment it doesn't really cater to either. If we consider the Community for a moment, there are a number of sites, blogs, wikis and other resources that you have all created and maintain. And that is fantastic. I think we should continue to foster this. I really like Slef's idea of a blogger agregator for the Koha site. So we need an element of the Koha site for the Koha Community that is a portal to the rest of the Koha world. The challenge will be to make sure that it is kept up to date (automatic tools like the blog agregator can help with this). Ok back to the People looking to procure a library system - The Head Librarians, their IT Managers or Chief Technical Officers. We need to direct this audience to - "brochure ware" type content that explains the features (with the least amount of technical jargon possible) - to case studies/ white papers so they can read about the success stories. - testimonials so they can see that this is an established product Along with a good demo, support pages etc that we have now. These people are used to spending lots of money on library systems, and will continue to do so. So if we want them to take notice, we need to look professional. I think this has been done well by the following Open Source software sites http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/ http://www.oscommerce.com/ http://phpadsnew.com/two/ So that is our challenge, how do we get there? Before we bust straight into design I think we need to sort out the content.
