We just need one. (2) In some mkdir calls, the arguments are reversed. (3) It was not minding the permissions of /etc/koha.conf when the file is being created; this is fixed by some umask()ing (4) Aborting the installation leaves an invalid /etc/koha.conf; rerunning installer.pl won't work, because it will think Koha is already (successfully) installed. (5) If MySQL is not installed in the usual places, the directory used silently defaults to /usr, which is almost guaranteed to be wrong; but the admin doesn't know the installer made a silent decision, and has no chance to override it (6) The MySQL password is not quoted; passwords can contain whitespace and/or double quotes etc. ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are the QA contact for the bug, or are watching the QA contact.

Reviewing Directory Structure

I think there are still some general questions about Koha file and directory structure that are worth investigating. This is not just idle comment - I'm happy to do some work on this (under direction) if it's generally considered worthwhile. QUESTION 1: Are the 'opac' and 'intranet' designed to be installed as 'stand-alone' on physically separate servers? If designed to support optional 'stand-alone', then I don't think the existing installation would support that. The OPAC relies on stuff stored in the 'intranet' folders. If designed to be installed on same physical server, then why duplicate stuff like images, templates, 'includes' folders and related files? The duplication adds to installation and maintenance complexity and I can't figure out what advantage(s) it provides? Same question arises for the need for virtual hosts. Any comments? :) R.

Bugs and Searching

I've been going through the messages posted to koha-devel over the last week or two looking for bug reports. It would sure be nice if people would wander over to bugs.koha.org and file bug reports there. Much easier to track than searching through my mailbox. ;) Searching is obviously an area of Koha that needs a lot of attention. Again, we've had some posts to the mailing lists with some good suggestions, but it's all very difficult to review later. Do any of the members of koha-devel who are knowledgeable about the issues surrounding searches care to step forward and maybe develop a page on the wiki documenting some of the issues required in improving Koha's search capabilities? I'm planning on putting out an RC14 today. Major fixes that I can remember are fixes to the search page links (the little numbers in boxes), printer editing fixes, authentication calls on more intranet scripts (still not 100% completed). Steve.

On-line requests demo

Finlay Thompson + Katipo are currently developing on-line request feature for Koha. As this is a work in progress (no published ETA?) and we have an immediate need for this at one of our schools, we have hacked up a quick demo.
