Would it be better to add code to Koha so that the list starts with the current year, and gives the next five or ten years in the future? I'll submit a patch if anyone thinks this is a good idea. Advice on managing Git, Branches & Patches

Hello All, I have some more questions about git. Really, what I'm interested in is how everyone handles fixing bugs and adding new features to koha, and submitting the patches. At the moment I have a private git repo that is up to date with git.koha.org's master branch. I have 5 commits on top of it, representing five new features. I was copying my master branch, adding a feature, then merging back into master, but some strange things were happening. It should have been a straight fast-forward, nothing had changed in master, but instead it seems as if the new commit was being merged in between other commits I had made, does anyone know what happened? To make five patches to submit, I created five branches based on master, then rebased each one leaving only one of the feature commits for each, thus ending up with five patches starting in 0001. Is this a reasonable way to work, or is there a better solution? Also, I submitted all five patches at once, with git send-email, but only four made it through. The 5th patch ended up bouncing back to me with the message CORRUPTED MESSAGE. This has happened to me before, but I found it very odd that it would work fine for 4 out of 5 patches, all submitted with one command. Hi all, has a decision be taken about the developer part of the conference ? How long will it last ? will it occur after or before the user conference ? Fellow catalogers and Koha community members, I have been spending a lot of time these last few months working on getting a new web-based cataloging tool ready for you all. It's finally time! I'd like to invite you to sign up for free and try out ‡biblios.net (www.biblios.net) a community cataloging tool from LibLime. So, what the heck is it? ‡biblios.net is a web-based original and copy cataloging tool with built in federated search of any Z39.50 target (via an integrated search registry with over 2000 targets - or by adding your own) and a large (30 million strong) shared database of catalog records. This means that you can visit ‡biblios.net and benefit from the work of other catalogers who have gone before you. You can also edit and contribute to the database without any restrictions. authorities question again

Dear all I have seen several KOHA 3.0 demos where the page Authority search results allways show 0 biblio records. I have tested and did some links between biblio and authority but it never never changes. Does we need to run any script? Thanks, Rafael Antonio

Hi people, I'm adding the ability to send shelves by mail. During my addition I find a problem sending by mail: Wide character in subroutine entry This means the data encode_base64() received is too big. I was copying the script from sendbasket, so I tested with sendbasket and a large basket, the same happen. What is the good fix? Use another library that manage this problems? Still using this complicated library and find a solution, like pre-saving the iso2709 in a temporary file and encode as base64? how to handle the link back to amazon?

Hi there, I want to gather opinions about a possible small change in the way the Amazon covers are handled in the opac on the detailed view of a record. Currently we show the Amazon cover and link back to the product's page on Amazon's web site from the cover itself. Some librarians I talk to are uncomfortable with the idea that their public library will show a link to a (monopolistic (online-only (us-owned (insert-yr-own-fears-here)))) bookseller in such a prominent way : using the whole cover image as a link. At least some of them would be assuaged, I think, by a more discreet link between their opac and Amazon : removing the link from the image itself and providing it through a tiny text just below the image, saying "source : Amazon", might be a solution. virtual hosting of Koha

Hello, All, I have been running Koha on a local server, but am testing to virtual host Koha on a commercial server (for example. Bluehost.com) In local server implementation, you need to "make install" to install Koha. In a commercial server, "make install" is not allowed. So does anyone have any luck to run koha in a commercial host? If so, please let me know the configuration changes, and the company's name. It seems that <virtualhost> configuration is not allowed in this commercial server. Database size with InnoDB

Hi people, I don't know if some people have a big experience from InnoDB and MySQL. We just see in mysql documentation innoDB does not reallow the disk space of deleted datas. An example : the disk used by one of our clients, who have only 50 000 notices, is 4GB and is still growing. The explication is innodb don't delete data from disk after a "drop" or a "delete". http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/adding-and-removing.html "Currently, you cannot remove a data file from the tablespace. To decrease the size of your tablespace, use this procedure: " The solution to decrease the size of data file, is to dump, and restore the database... Another UTF-8 encoding question

Play time is over and I am now building a couple of servers using Ubuntu 8.04 and the latest git version of Koha. So far the installations have been clean and easy. I have just one more UTF-8 encoding question. Being in the southwestern U.S. we are trying to deal with some titles that have Spanish character sets to go along with our primarily English character sets. In looking over Koha Wiki entry for encoding and character sets, http://wiki.koha.org/doku.php?id=encodingscratchpad., I have a question about the section on combining characters and collations. The search entry may not necessarily have the special character, but we need to return records with special characters. For those who have had to deal with this, which would you recommend, utf8_unicode_ci or utf8_general_ci for the collation collection? The word Univerzalitás is a unicode combining form. When you copy/paste it into a text editor or use a keyboard to type it, it is most likely going to be the non-combining form: Univerzalitás. (in the non-combining form, the hex for the accented a is: Hex 0301; for the non-combining form it’s: Hex 61, Hex 00e1).
