Koha Z39.50 client process isn't easy to understand from a end-user perspective. Current process: ◊ In cataloguing, a search to multiple z3950 target is sent. ◊ Result is displayed. 20 first results are displayed for each target. ◊ Each record is stored in import_* tables for further usage via 'reservoir'. ◊ By clicking on Import, one record is copied in data entry page. ◊ Cataloger can modify biblio record, localized it, etc. ◊ In next cataloguing operation, a search will be done both in catalog and reservoir (import_biblios table), and will retrieve eventually biblio records from previous z3950 searches. Some design choices are disputable: ◊ Why just 20 records per host are displayed? ◊ Why all retrieved records are stored in reservoir? People generally don't understand that. Why 20 and not 5 or 100 records? When a search is done by author, it is to catalog a specific book from this author. But with the current design, the library will fill its reservoir with biblio records describing books which will generally never enter into its catalog. ◊ Search in reservoir is done with BreedingSearch function only on 'title' and 'isbn' fields. So it's impossible to retrieve a biblio record by author. ◊ There is no user interface allowing to see what's going on with biblio records stored in reservoir and coming from z3950 searches. There is such an interface for staged records: those imported explicitly into reservoir from files (in Tools). ◊ So if a library uses to do search in 4 z3950 hosts, each search may add 4 x 20 = 60 records in import_biblios and import_records tables. The number of records added this way will grow indefinitely without any mean to clean reservoir. Some ideas of improvement: ◊ Add a syspref 'ReservoirZ3950' which when at false disable biblio records adding from z3950 searches. ◊ Add an UI in Tools to see the number of biblio records in reservoir added from z3950 searches. ◊ Add a 'clear' option in Tool to delete all records in reservoir coming from z3950, and eventually also coming from file imports. Possuble Bug when running rebuild_nozebra.pl

Good Morning All Whenever I run this script I have to add the /C4 to the koha-httpd.conf file at the end of SetEnv PERL5LIB "/usr/share/koha/lib" line. This really is a pain in the backside because when I do that then Koha doesn't want to work. I switch it back and Koha works. Something isn't right somewhere and I am not sure it was meant to be this way or not. I am currently using the following setup: Ubuntu 8.10 Mysql 5.0.67 Apache 2.2.9 Perl 5.10 Thanks Ed Edward J. Barcode Don't Found

I am sending to both lists in case this needs to be addressed with a program update. Every time I update our barcodes in Koha (T0012345 to T 12345) it no longer recognizes the barcodes when trying to check out. I have tried each of the prefix options and we even added a blank option but that still isn't working, I export the itemnumber and barcode, update the barcode and reimport to the DB to a temp table then update the items table with sql expression. The records are updated and then I run the following script: perl /usr/share/koha/bin/maintenance/sync_items_in_marc_bib.pl --run-update It runs for like 6 hours (almost 16k records) it gives following results: Embedded item synchronization report ------------------------------------ Number of bibs checked: 13214 Number of bibs modified: 13167 Number of item fields removed from bibs: 15698 Number of item fields added to bibs: 15698 Number of bibs with errors: 0 I go back into Koha and try to checkout and I get a yellowish box that say barcodes not found. I need to get this to work because rebarcoding is out of the question with the number of items we have in our library. Thanks in advance! Zebra stops searching after a crash

We are getting ready to go into production and one of the Mac Minis that we have been testing on decided to crash today. After rebooting the server, searching with Zebra turned off works. Turning Zebra on and searching fails. Zebra was turned on prior to the crash and the searching worked great. I have tried the drop option in zebraidx and dropped the database biblios in an attempt to start clean, still no joy. I have run the rebuild zebra script numerous times and everything seems to be indexing, but we still can't search. Any ideas? Error exporting report!

hi, I'm trying to export a report from the page "reports/guided_reports.pl" in interanet. When I create a report it works fine and shows result. But when I click on "Download" button to export the report in any format(CSV/Tab Spaced), it doesn't work. It just shows an error: "Error exporting report!". I've tried it on two different machines having different installations, but both don't work. Please help ! Regards, Muhammad Wasim

Eric, On Hard drive: for 100,000 records, about 10 GB for Zebra indexes and about 5 GB for mysql. If using Zebra we find RAM should ideally be 500 MB or more even if use load is very light. Hi there, Is there some guidelines about the system requirements to run Koha with all components (Apache, MySQL, Koha, Zebra) running on a machine exclusivement dedicated to Koha? I'm mostly talking in term of: - CPU and RAM vs simultaneous number of users - Hard drive space vs number of records - Other? Thank you in advance for all inputs! Eric

Migrating dev_week to Koha 3.x

Hey All, We are having some issue getting our records into Koha 3 from dev_week. When we export the MARC from dev_week, and import it into Koha 3, the original biblionumber and the like get ignored and new ones generated, so nothing matches up. If I search for 'Cat in the Hat' and click the link, I'll be looking at the bib for 'Learning XML'. Any ideas? Post Import of field update issue

Good Morning All I am writing to both groups because I am not sure which one would be the best option for this problem. I have to do a mass update of our barcode field to match up what our barcodes actually are as opposed to what Follett spits out in its export. Before I do the field update I can check out books with no problem with the current barcode format. After I do the update, when I enter the barcode to checkout for the student and hit Checkout then it automatically sends me back to the Circulation - Checkout page and never assigns the book to the patron. Here are the steps I do when updating the field: * Export data to a tab delimited file (itemnumber and barcode) * Open file in Excel and fix the barcode field (From T0012345 to T 12345) * Save as file again as Tab Delimited * Go to WebMin in the browser and create a temp table to hold the updated info * Import the data to the temp table with no issues * Run the following SQL expression to update the barcode field in the items table with the data that is in the temp table linked by itemnumber o update items a inner join temp b on a.itemnumber = b.itemnumber set a.barcode = b.barcode * Everything copies over, I spot check a couple records to make sure no issues. * I run the following script from terminal o perl /usr/share/koha/bin/maintenance/sync_items_in_marc_bib.pl --run-update * Then run: o perl /usr/share/koha/bin/migration_tools/rebuild_nozebra.pl * I go into Koha and test the checkout function (see Checkout Image Attachment) and I get the Circulation - Checkout page (see Circulation-Checkout Attachment) Should I be doing this update a different way????
