Hi, I just noticed that the Web archiver (Pipermail) for the "Koha-Patches" mailing list has "eaten" (deleted, cropped...) part (the second "half") of a post of mine. The post has been sent through Gmail. Other web archives that also archive the "koha patches" mailing list, like Markmail - http://www.markmail.org/ - have the full post available. $query vs $query

hello koha coders, Koha naming convention drove us to a stupid bug: $query is used both for the CGI object and the SQL statements. So at the end of an hard week, we write : my $query = CGI->new; # lines of code $query = "delete * from my_brain"; # lines of code print $query->header; and try to understand why header is not a function available in the weird "delete * from my_brain" package ... so we would like to change at least one of these convention to prevent this easy error. As we are for a stronger coding style in koha, we feel that this decision must be debated with all of you. proposals: 1. Change the sql statement name a) to $statement b) to $sql c) to $smt d) to an explicit name (as $select_old_borrowers or $update_items ...) e) to your own idea 2. Change the CGI object a) to $cgi (i have no idea why ...) b) to $r (as there is a lot of perl code still using this convention) c) to $input (because a part of koha already use it) d) to your own idea 3. Suggestions Wanted For Koha Uninstall Script.

I've been giving Bug 459 (No unistall script) some thought. And I've come up with what might well be a solution. I'd be interested to hear thoughts on the matter. * [1] I've taken Galen's suggestion and added support for multiple machine architectures. Ostensibly this is to support unixes and variants who do not use /usr/sbin to store userdel & groupdel commands. [2] I've removed comments about the install logfile holding misleading information. I believe those comments were probably mistaken and am investigating the matter further. ** help wanted: I'd like suggestions of Perl Interpreter Machine Type Operating System Classifications for any machines which do not use the /usr/sbin directory for the commands userdel and groupdel with the exception of FreeBSD (or BSDs in general) if they do not have a groupdel command of some kind. (Not a procedure for editing the group file, and so forth. It must be one single command.) (**Please do not send instructions for procedures for editing users and groups.) Hello, This is a very stupid question but how do i change the Item count in a bibliographic record? i have two records of the same book and want to just put 2 items under one record. Is the field for that in bibliographic records or items? Thanks in advance! Linh

Sip2 and Sip.pm

Hi, there's an underlying assumption in Koha's Sip implementation that messages from sip units will be terminated by carriage return line feed. This works with many sip clients (including 3M). However the sip2 standard mandates that sip messages are terminated by carriage return (hex 0d). That means any client that implements the standard as specified (and I know of at least 2 such vendors) can't connect to Koha's implementation (which sits waiting for the CR). It also means that those units that send hex 0a in the body of text can cause grief. I'm wondering if anyone has any thoughts on improving the server side.
