koha-3.00.00 make fails

Hi all, I have downloaded http://download.koha.org/koha-3.00.00.tar.gz and began installing it on Debian/etch (in a Linux vserver environment). 0. FINE: cd koha-3.00.00 1. FINE: perl Makefile.PL 2. FAIL: make : : : Manifying blib/man3/C4::UploadedFile.3pm Manifying blib/man3/C4::BackgroundJob.3pm Manifying blib/man3/opac::opac-dictionary.3pm Manifying blib/man3/serials::member-search.3pm /usr/bin/perl "-Iblib/arch" "-Iblib/lib" fix-perl-path.PL blib /usr/bin/perl "-Iblib/arch" "-Iblib/lib" rewrite-config.PL blib/KOHA_CONF_DIR/koha-conf.xml Bad arg length for Socket::inet_ntoa, length is 0, should be 4 at rewrite-config.PL line 67. make: *** [blib/KOHA_CONF_DIR/koha-conf.xml] Error 255 Any ideas what went wrong and how to fix? Aside: there were a couple of other problems with this "out of the box" debian based install of Koha 3.0 which had to be fixed along the way, e.g. seven missing perl modules and libgd not found. I get the digest, so i am only able to respond now. I want to report one failure, and an eventual success (using a different route...) The failure: i was unable to deploy Koha to my regular account with a shared hosting service (specifically, hostmonster.com) i don't remember any problems with the make process, however, i had issues with getting the hosting to work...i don't even think i was using virtual hosts, i wanted to first get at least the INTRANET running, but the only thing i could use was changes to .htaccess files, since i don't get access to Apache's config directly. Koha had problems finding the Perl modules, specifically it did not pick up environment variables pointing to their location i was not very smart at that point with different approaches, so after trying for a while, i chose another route... Success: Since i was determined to host on the Internet, i basically decided to get my "own server", essentially a slice (at slicehost.com) They use virtualization and give you a choice of OS, ample bandwidth, and for all practical purposes, its like your own box, where you are root and can do whatever you like. >From then on, it was like a regular Koha install and a few hours later, it was up and running... i've never gone back and analyzed what went wrong with the shared hosting, but i basically faced one problem after another, so that eventually, i just gave up. But, i think, in theory, it should be possible to do with some changes to the install process. Geolocalization in Koha

Hi! Does anyone ever thought of adding Geolocation[0] to Koha? Probably using also Google Maps API. Having branches spread over a large territory make this very useful, making the records of the searched material more near first in the result list. Is possible to add some heuristics based on what people usually search for on that zone. There are some freely available databases, but also is possible to create and improve one over time, based on location established on registered and logged users, associating it with their IP address. Yes, the previous problem was solved, indeed... I do not understand why I have so many problems installing koha,.. maybe the last years I was too used to Joomla! installations :D So the challenging koha that its concept I so much admire and embrace makes me face another problem. Integration of BibLibre features for 3.2

Hi Galen, I was wondering where we are going with 3.2 integration : - i've submitted 79 patches for new_acq some months ago. What's the status of those patches ? We have made some/many improvements, that have not be submitted anywhere yet (it's on our local repo). I would be very happy to submit them, but don't know where to put them yet. - the other features are on http://git.koha.org/cgi-bin/gitweb.cgi?p=Koha;a=shortlog;h=biblibre-integra… There are a lot of patches all around, and I was wondering how/when they are supposed to reach 3.2 repository. I think delaying too much integration of patches results in slowing the release. BibLibre faces a lot of added work to deal with multiple repository (we have one for new_acq, one for other features -sponsored by Aix-Marseille Universities-, one for 3.0.x, ...). And, more important probably, the community suffers from not knowing exactly what has been done and how. I think what we should do now is : integrate all our (BibLibre) patches into the 3.2 repo as soon as possible, open widely the repo, and let everyone play with it ("Release Soon, Release Often"). I'm sure other developers from Chris C. to PTFS, Tamil, PTFS-Europe, ByWaterSolutions,... will be very happy to test & play with all those patches. If some other people have "finished" or "almost finished" features, they should be added as well. Question/Suggestion for Development

With all of the new system preferences we've been adding and those that have been asked for, I'm wondering why we don't have check boxes for preferences instead of just ON & OFF. An example: For Amazon we have a bunch of preferences : AmazonAssocTag AmazonCoverImages AmazonEnabled AmazonLocale AmazonReviews AmazonSimilarItems AWSAccessKeyID AWSPrivateKey Why not change it to AmazonAssocTag AmazonEnabled - and choose from AmazonCoverImages, AmazonReviews, and/or AmazonSimilarItems AmazonLocale AWSAccessKeyID AWSPrivateKey I thought of this when I was thinking of people asking to have preferences to show different messaging options and to have the ability to decide which tabs are visible in the OPAC on the patron record. Instead of having 6 on/off toggles for each type of message that patrons can receive why not just one preference with 6 check boxes - pick which ones you want. The same for tabs that appear on the patron record in the OPAC? Seems like a nice way to consolidate our system preferences and make it easier down the road to allow for customizations in what shows and what doesn't. I'm just wondering if this was ever considered, if it's possible, or if it's just a silly suggestion :) Thanks Nicole
