Hi all, The good news: CCFLS went live with 3.2alpha2 on Tuesday! The bad news: our transactions are *really* slow at times. I suspect the culprit is probably a ton of simultaneous mysql activity. I understand Chris has been working on adding memcached support to Koha, and I'm hoping that will help. I tried enabling it yesterday, but it didn't seem to do anything, so I must have been missing something, or maybe it's not implemented quite yet. Can anyone tell me what we need to do to get it going? Our system: 3.2 alpha2 (with zebra) on debian lenny (64bit), 16gb ram, two dual core opteron 2214 processors. We have nine libraries throughout the county with about 15 circ stations simultaneously circulating items at the busiest times. We have about 29,500 borrowers and 309,000 items. We just upgraded from a far less powerful dev_week system which didn't have these issues. What I've done: installed the debian packages for memcached and libcache-memcached-perl installed Cache::Memcached::Fast from CPAN (had to force it to install) Added these lines to the config section of koha-conf.xml <memcached_servers>127.0.0.1:11211</memcached_servers> <memcached_namespace>KOHA</memcached_namespace> I've also tried mod_perl, which does seem to improve page load time (from 0.8 sec to 0.1 sec on the login page, for example) but I've disabled it again for now because it seemed to cause some errors. Obviously I need to work on that some more. Thanks in advance!! Proposal To Switch Koha's License to GPLv3 and AGPLv3 or AGPLv3

Greetings all, Some time ago the topic of changing the version/flavor of GPL license Koha is released under was discussed. In light of the momentum the community has built up in the area of change in recent months, now would be a good time to resume licensing discussions and bring them to a final resolve. Delaying them only means another round of disruptive changes at some point in the not too distant future. It would be nice to go ahead and have all the laundry cleaned and folded while we are about the task. As I see it, the advantage and rational for moving to GPLv3 are primarily that GPLv3 is compatible with AGPLv3. This allows us to accept work licensed under either of these two licenses. AGPLv3 carries the added advantage of the *additional* requirement that changes, etc. to the code be made available (at least) to those who access the changed code. This gives us quite a measure of protection more against Koha related code becoming locked up on a saas platform somewhere in the nebulous "cloud." Let's hash through this and come to a decision. Have come across references to this a few times recently & am curious enough to ask the development community whether the NoSQL movement holds any relevance for Koha's future. According to that font of universal wisdom, Wikipedia, "Typical modern relational databases have shown poor performance on data-intensive applications including indexing a large number of documents [= any ILS?], serving pages on high-traffic websites and delivering streaming media. They can be efficient only when they are tuned either for small but frequent read/write transactions or for large batch transactions with rare write accesses, while there are demands for the data stores capable of heavy workloads with frequent updates." User gets logged out while adding items.

Wide character in null operation

Can anyone please advise what may cause this problem? Koha 3.0 and mod_perl

Hello, I am planning to run Koha 3.0 with the mod_perl Apache 2 module (using the PerlRunPrefork response handler). My question : has someone noticed problems with such a configuration ? (On wiki.koha.org , there was a page about Koha and mod_perl but I don't find it anymore on the Wiki of koha-community.org.) Best regards, Alex

hello koha people, As Paul said in his last message, we try to know if it's possible to introduce a clear layer structure in koha (actually: we think it's possible). dontmerge system preference

Hi all, I want to update the template to show the right text, but I don't know for sure which is which and figure one of those of you who have done dev work will know: The dontmerge preference says "Don't automatically update attached biblios when changing an authority record. If this is off, please ask your administrator to enable the merge_authorities.pl cronjob". -- it shouldn't say OFF - what should it say? "if this is set to 'do'" - which is off? do or don't?
