apache configuration proposal

Mike and I were discussing apache configuration on IRC this morning and have a proposal for installer.pl Right now installer.pl builds apache configuration with two separate ip addresses for virtual hosts. We'd like to change that to the port based virtual host setup. By default, it will suggest port 80 for the OPAC and port 8080 for the Intranet interfaces. It will warn that using port 80 for the OPAC will "hide" any existing web content served from that computer, and that a different port should be used if that is the case. I'll add comments to httpd.conf detailing how to change to the other two possible virtual hosting schemes: separate ips and domain names, or separate domain names on one ip. Comments? Steve.

Documentation for the sample data: The sample data included with koha-1.2.1RC3 has the following characteristics: 452 items (barcodes T001 through T452) 3 patrons V10000008 - Steve Tonnesen V10000019 - Jane Doe V1000002X - John Smith You should be able to test circulation and cataloguing quite easily with this data. In the circulation module, you can just enter the patron's last name (tonnesen, doe, or smith). In other areas of Koha (such as reserves), you will need to enter the member's card number. Nicholas: Some suggestions for documentation changes. I think that installer.pl should be the recommended installation method for 1.2.x now. installer.pl will: Check for perl modules Prompt for an installation directory for the OPAC files. Default value is /usr/local/koha/opac/ Prompt for an installation directory for the Intranet files. Default value is /usr/local/koha/intranet/ Prompt for an installation directory for koha.conf Default value is /etc/koha.conf Prompt for a name for Koha's Mysql database Default value is Koha Prompt for the hostname where the database is located Default is localhost Note: Using a database hosted on another server will probably break installer.pl at this point, as it uses mysql client tools (mysql and mysqladmin) for creating and populating the database. Prompt for a mysql user for Koha to use Default is kohaadmin Prompt for a mysqlpassword for the Koha user There is no default Prompts for an email address for the Apache Virtual Hosts Default is webmaster(a)YOUR.DOM.AIN Prompts for the domain name or ip address of the server Default is the installing machine's hostname Prompts for a port for the OPAC virtual host Default is port 80 Note: Using port 80 for the OPAC interface will "hide" any other web content being served from Apache's default root directory. 1.2.1 RC3 Is now available for Testing

Once again, thanks to Steves hard work, and excellent bug reporting from Mike and Shane. We have a new Release candidate ready to be tested. http://developer.koha.org/koha-1.2.1RC3.tar.gz It is still a release candidate so not ready for production systems yet. Please try it out, and report bugs at http://bugs.koha.org/ Including in this candidate is some sample data, we are hoping this will allow a working demo system, out of the box.
