Bug 8952, "Add http:// to url in social media links on opac-detail" (http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=8952) makes changes to the way links to Syndetics and LibraryThing are formed in the template. In order to give the patch a proper sign-off it should really be tested by someone who can test those services. I don't have credentials to test either one. Does anyone else? update Koha download pages, with some info for beginners

hi Folks can we get some info the following 2 pages, recommending beginners to install Koha using the 'packages' method http://koha-community.org/download-koha/ http://download.koha-community.org/ it seems to me, these 2 pages are the first pages a beginner hits, when attempting to install Koha if we can put some info recommending beginners to install Koha using the 'packages' method there, we can save everyone much wasted effort (i would, but i don't have edit permissions, afaict) so… is this a good idea, or not?

[QA] 2 short QA questions

Hi all (and particularly QAers) I have 2 questions for the QA team. 1/ About bug 8687, a proposed patch ( http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/attachment.cgi?id=12713&action=diff) removes perlcritic warnings. This way of doing is particularly brutal, it completely removes the code :) So we have 2 solutions : - To propose a patch to replace ALL eval { require "$FindBin::Bin/../kohalib.pl" }; with my $lib = "$FindBin::Bin/../kohalib.pl" eval { require $lib}; in the misc scripts. Like this, perlcritic is happy... - We add a prerequisite for the misc scripts : the PERL5LIB environment variable has to be set with the koha path and we delete these lines. 2/ Recently I suggested a followup (to fix QA issues) for a bug (bug 7067) and I switched the status to 'passed qa'. I thought it was easier to let the RM review a simple patch instead of asking for a new sign off and another QA. I understand that we don't want to have patches without review and test. But in this case (and in most cases when I suggest a new patch while passing QA) it is a simple patch and starting again a new iteration (SO + QA) burn off energy and/or could block a patch for several weeks in this status. Maybe this point is a non-problem and will be fixed with new status :) For discussion, Jonathan

New Version of LibLiveCD - DSpace, Koha & Drupal

Dear all, We are happy to inform about the new release of LibLiveCD version 1.3. This version of CDROM is made available on http://sourceforge.net/ projects/liblivecd/files/ Version-1.3<http://sourceforge.net/projects/liblivecd/files/Version-1.3> <http://sourceforge.net/projects/liblivecd/files/Version-1.3> <http://sourceforge.net/projects/liblivecd/files/Version-1.3> <http://sourceforge.net/projects/liblivecd/files/Version-1.3> The current version of LibLiveCD contains LUbuntu 12.04 LTS, DSpace-1.8.2, Koha-3.8.6 & Drupal-7.16. All these three software are pre-configured and pre-installed on a livecd. The total size of the LibLiveCD is 696 MB. Drupal Content Management Open Source Software is added considering the requirements of libraries to create their library websites with dynamic look. Along with DSpace, Koha & Drupal the CD also contains following server related software preinstalled and pre configured such as :Apache2 Web Server, OpenSSH Server, VSFTP Server, MySQL Server, PostGreSQL Server, Dovecot/Exim4 Mail Server, SquirrelMail Web Mail Client and Minimum desktop environment. To input multilingual data in DSpace/Koha, IBUS input method is also installed on the CD. Teamviewer 7 is pre installed to share desktop, Abiword for editing/reading word documents, gnumeric for using spread sheets, vim/medit/gedit for text editing and epdfview for reading PDF files. Openoffice/Libreoffice and multimedia related softwaer are excluded from the CD and these can easily be installed by running “System Tools-Synaptic Package Manager”. If the synaptic “reload” does not work try chaning repositories links to http://archives.ubuntu.com/ ubuntu<http://archives.ubuntu.com/ubuntu> instead of http://in.archives.ubuntu.com/ ubuntu<http://in.archives.ubuntu.com/ubuntu> and then search and install any other application. LUbuntu operating system (Lightweight Operating System) is chosen considering requirements from libraries where libraries have low configuration desktops in their libraries but still wish to initiate their library web sites, complete library automation as well as wish to create digital libraries. Please follow proper installation steps to install livecd if you wish to have dual boot i.e. windows as well as linux installation on your machines. If you are installing livecd on a machine which is running under proxy and if you are unable to browse Internet then on every boot you will have to manually set current date and time. To set current date and time manually run the following command on every boot to set systems current date and time. root@localhost:date -s "09 NOV 2012 03:35:00" We would greatly appreciate your valuable feedback. Field 001 auto-increment problem in 3.8.5

Our cataloguing frameworks (default, books) for tag 001 have under Constraints / Other Options / Plugin a script [callnumber_rev3.pl, one line changed from the Koha "standard" callnumber.pl] which includes this snippet: # If the textbox is empty, we return a simple incremented controlnumber [was callnumber] if ( $code eq "" ) { - my $sth = $dbh->prepare("SELECT MAX(CAST(itemcallnumber AS SIGNED)) FROM items"); + my $sth = $dbh->prepare("SELECT MAX(CAST(EXTRACTVALUE(marcxml,'//controlfield[\@tag=\"001\"]') AS SIGNED)) from biblioitems"); $sth->execute; if ( my $max = $sth->fetchrow ) { $template->param( return => $max+1, ); } The need for this change is that marcxml,'//controlfield[\@tag=\"001\"]' correctly returns 39029463224 (mysql output below my sig.) LoC, BL, LAC, etc all *occasionally* have alpha suffixes - hence the "EXTRACTVALUE". BUT -- when cataloguing, using the plugin for a blank 001 input, it gets stuck on 39029463221 and therefore produces duplicates. I've even tried return => $max+5 but no change ... it still produces $max-3. Rebooting, no change ;-{ A numeric sort of the marcxml 001 tags appears normal: .../ 39029463218 39029463219 39029463220 39029463221 39029463222 39029463223 39029463224 I've spent a couple of hours trying to chase this one down and would really appreciate help. using mysql dump of 3.9 in 3.8.6

staff and OPAC search limits?

Does anyone know if there's a limit to both staff and OPAC searches where an underscore is used in the LLOC items.location ($shelflocations) compared to a wildcard, e.g. from staff advanced search shelving location for box_rr42: No results match your search for 'location,wrdl: box_rr42' in NMA Catalog. 7 result(s) found for 'location,wrdl: *rr42' in NMA Catalog. In a general "search catalogue" (staff and OPAC) for box_rr42, the problem is that it finds 96 (including, but not limited to, the correct 7) as it pulls up boxes box_rr40, box_rr41 .... box_rr49. Also, presentation problem, the OPAC does *not* give the shelving location, even in the MARC view the html box is empty. Has this last point been recorded as a bug (I have a vague memory of something like this)? Thanks and regards - paul

making facets editable ?

Hello Currently, facets are defined in perl code. This is not good for unimarc libraries : a recent improvement is specific to Marc21 and could not been transposed in Unimarc, because the information is not encoded in the same field in all unimarc libraries. I'm referring to http://bugs.koha-community.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=4255 "Add item type to facet list" : there is no universal Unimarc field for "item type" :-( The solution could be a system preference for this peculiar facet. But if a development is needed I would prefer a more generic one, to make all facets fully editable, so that each library could define its own facets matching the (sub)fields of its choice, without editing perl files. Do you think it would be a good idea ? I think there is 2 way for doing this : - create a configuration file (yaml ?) - create a (big) syspref Which choice would be the best regarding performances (and other criteria I did not think of...) ?
