Possible Feature

Good Morning As we implement here at our district, a question came for a possible feature that was in our previous software. Under Circulation on the admin side, we have Check-In, Check-Out and Transfers. Something that we see very useful and timesaving would be a feature to Renew Books from here as well. How it would work is to select that option under circulation and just scan the book barcode and it would automatically renew the book for the patron. Currently (how I understand it) is you need to go into each individual patron and renew. This is very time consuming if you have 15 patron from a class wanting to renew their book. Let me know what you think. I am not a programmer or I would work on it and submit the code for a possible inclusion. If someone wants to work on it I would be happy to do any testing that is needed. Also, if there is a more formal way to submit this feature request let me know and I would be happy to do that. Thanks Ed Edward J. Hi world, BibLibre has started this week a coderun for 3.2 (from today, to thursday) All BibLibrarians (except marc, that is on some migration) are working on what should be the 3.2 soon. My Two cents is that we do not form a Koha community or an Evergreen community in competition. Let's talk about forming/joining a library community which would support and endorse Library support projects in cooperation. The Evergreen community is at almost that same place at the age of three that this Koha community seems to be with respect to this subject. The histories are different in terms of development detail but within the library community, there appears to be some blood in the water and that is making it difficult to see clearly downstream. Open Source communities are formed for the benefit of a global world in need of affordable, considered solutions. I would propose that we think about a foundation dedicated to managing and perfecting solutions for libraries with a structure that draws from such successful FOSS projects as Elicpse, Sourceforge, and Apache. Such a foundation would be chartered to serve librarian, patron and developer alike without any particular alligence to Koha, Evergreen or whatever else we spawn in the future that we wish to give back to the library community. Several people (Chris, Steven, Rachel, Paul, ... hope i haven't missed anyone) have responded very graciously. About infrastructure and services Koha uses...

Hello, i'd like to understand if any infrastructure used to host the mailing lists, wiki, the public site, bug trackers, git, pootle, etc., in general, anything that helps provide Koha to the community needs a re-look in the light of plans for the Koha foundation. i haven't researched this yet, but i know, for example that at least (one of?) the demo servers are run by LibLime, the chat channel is hosted on Katipo's servers, etc. I'd like to clarify that i am not imputing any disrespect for these services and the people that very kindly provide them to the community, i am not casting any doubts as to their continuity, etc... Do people think it is preferable in any way to ensure any contracts or other agreements for hosting, etc. are directly entered into between the (to-be-formed) foundation and public service providers. In such a scenario, the foundation can exercise complete control over the resources it uses, and the community then helps administer them. Ahead of the Koha foundation meeting on the 15th, i volunteer to host some or all such services, if any are needed, as well as volunteer time to administer some of them. i am also willing to pitch in to fund such services. Moving up and remaining open

Hello everyone, I wanted to write to you all before news started spreading and let you know that I have taken a position with ByWater Solutions and BibLibre that will start on October 1st. These two amazing companies have come together to offer me a role that will allow me to not only help libraries understand open source but to stay active in the community. This means that I will remain your document manager - as I was informed at KohaCon - until I drop :) I have also been learning more and more about the software and participating more in submitting patches - something I hope to start doing more often. Lastly, I read the comments in the most recent IRC meeting and wanted to thank all of you who said such kind things about me :) I enjoy being documentation manager and helping other learn about Koha and open source in general and would never have stopped doing that. While I would tend to agree that one must take steps in order, I would like to recognize the generous offer Krishnan has made and say thank you. In it's turn, can I suggest the idea of a network of mirror sites? git does that anyway basically. I am happy to provide a mirror for the whole bundle of services to the Koha community as well.
