RFC: Modification to Fines System

Kyle, Sounds good to me. This suggestion seems like it could have some powerful long-term potential. By modifying the system in the way you suggest, it would be possible to expand the kinds of payments patrons can make to include arbitrary services (like printing, ILL, class registration fees, etc.). One of our libraries is requesting a breakdown of payments by day, by account type. That is, they want a report the gives the total amount paid for Late Fees, for Damaged Books, and for Lost Books. Apparently, they have separate money accounts for each. In Koha as it stands, there is no direct way to connect a payment to a particular accountline that was paid. The least invasive idea I have is to add a new column to accountlines ( say, accountno_paid ) for payments. Each payment would then refer to the fine or charge that it was paid against. The largest difference, is that instead of one large payment that runs down the amountoutstanding field for a number of charges, the total payment would need to be broken down into a series of smaller payments, one for each accountno paid on. For example, suppose that a borrower has 3 items with and overdue fine of $5.00 each, and the borrower is paying in full. The current version would create a payment line of $15, and then set the amountoutstanding to $0.00 for each of the 3 accountno's. The revamped system would still set the amountoutstanding to $0.00 for each accountno, but would create three separate payment lines, one for each of the 3 accountno's, and the accountno paid on would be stored in accountno_paid. I don't think this would break any existing reports or functionality. Does this sound like a reasonable solution? Or have I missed something that may solve my problem without code? Extended Patron attributes

Can you have more than one extended attribute for a patron? I imported one on Weds and it worked fine, so I did another this morning it completed with no issue but when I select one of the patrons in Koha to view the data it only shows the last imported attribute and if you select edit to fix the first imported attribute there is no data list just the attribute fields. If I save the blanks it deletes the data. I did look at the borrowers attribute table and all the attributes that were imported the first time where deleted???? I guess you need to do all of them at one time? Why is that? Thanks Ed Edward J. Diacriticals, Unicode, and PDF's

Does someone have a few bibs they can shoot my way which contain lots of diacriticals and are unicode encoding? Maybe something in French or Spanish for starters. I'm working toward fixing the unicode problems with labels as a back-burner project. Kind Regards, Chris

Staff Sessions get timeout'd even though they have been active

My librarians brought to my attention that they were being logged out of Koha because their session timed out, even though they had been active less than two hours prior ( timeout sys. pref. is set to two hours ). I added a couple warns so I could see when lasttime was updated and when someone was timed out. I saw timeouts on sessions that had been active from 3 seconds to 1 hour 43 minutes prior. pianohacker suggested changing session storage from the database to the filesystem, which seems to have fixed the problem. Has anyone else seen this? I don't want to file a bug if it's just a problem with my setup. Authorized Values Uses

Hi all, Colin and I were having an off list email back and forth with questions that hopefully you all can help us with. I asked him why some of his new patches didn't add new defaults to the Authorized Values list and he was concerned that the Authorized Values were only for Cataloging because they appear under Catalog on the Admin menu. I mentioned that there are other Authorized Values in there- other than just cataloging ones. That brings us to our question - should we move this link on the Admin page? And should we alter the description at the top of the page to make it clear that Authorized Values are actually system wide? And if so I don't mind reporting that bug and making that change. I just want some feedback before I do anything. Nicole
