Could Koha's git official repository be also set up for HTTP access?

Hi all, At work, I'm behind a proxy and firewall, that blocks most outgoing traffic, other than http (port 80) and https / SSL (port 443). Because of this, I can NOT clone with git's official repository, given that operations like: git clone git://git.koha.org/pub/scm/koha.git kohaclone ... use the "git" protocol (and not the "http" protocol) that uses a different port than http /https, and thus those operations are blocked. I have worked around this limitation, by using git with the copy of the "koha.git" file available at http://repo.or.cz that, although usually lagging some hours behind the official repository at koha.org, does provide the http interface to git command line operations. Or is it already done? I would like to avoid doing things like setting up SSH tunnels over HTTPS and the like, if possible. RFC: Upgrading to jQuery 1.3.2

Currently, Koha uses jQuery 1.2.3. I would like to get it upgraded to the current release which is *1.3.2<http://docs.jquery.com/Release:jQuery_1.3.2> *. The significant changes that the 1.3 series brings can be found here: *http://docs.jquery.com/Release:jQuery_1.3* The 1.3 series brings many performance improvements and few new features, but a few things had to be deprecated along the way. The one that seems to cause the most problems for upgraders is the deprecation of the *XPath attribute selector syntax*<http://www.learningjquery.com/2009/03/3-quick-steps-for-a-painless-upgrade-…>, but luckily, it's also easy to fix. Using a Native XML Database with Koha

Developers, A recent post in the Koha discussion list about MODS support reminded me of something I'd be thinking of for a while. I've heard of talk of developing Koha to support other standards that MARC, such as DC, MODS or METS. It certainly would be nice to be able to use whichever schema best fit ones collection, and to be able to mix different types of standards together into a common interface and management system. I suppose one of the major difficulties would be finding a way to map all those different standards to a relational database, without exploding the number of tables and complexity. So, the thought occurred to me: since most of these formats are already in XML (or could be mapped to it easily enough), why not use a Native XML Database? This would save on mappings, since XQuery would be used to extract information directly from the XML. It would also be flexible enough to allow for home-grown Schemas to be mixed in with standards. There would also be one less translation in getting the information out of storage and into an AJAX interface. The one major concern I see (aside from all the re-coding) is speed. Could a Native XML Database, with the proper indexes, perform as quickly as Koha does now with MySQL and Zebra? And is there any way to answer that without doing the re-coding? I just thought I'd throw this out as food for thought, and hopefully some discussion. I don't know if this has been mentioned before (couldn't find it in the email archives), but it could prove to be worth looking at. Questions about waitingreserves.pl report in Circulation

Developers: We had a few questions about the waitingreserves.pl report. Of course the scenario is specific to our consortium but wanted to get your take on it. 1. The location displayed in the ACTION column when canceling a 'hold over' item is the item's home library; but often, there is a hold on the item for another library (not the home library). It is the next library in the holds queue that should display in this column, rather than the item home location. 2. Canceling the 'hold over' from waitingreserves.pl should trigger a transit prompt, instructing the staff person to send the item on to the hold library, if a hold exists on the item. This doesn't happen. Nothing happens when the 'hold over' is canceled. A staff person, seeing the information displayed in the ACTION column, would naturally assume that the item is to return to its home library. So, regardless of whether a hold exists, the 'hold over' canceled item is being returned home. We have found that a hold transit prompt will trigger if the canceled hold item is checked in after it is canceled. But this is a two-step process that we have not yet trained any of our libraries to perform, as we just discovered this issue. We are seeing lots of problems associated with this, since many hold items are being sent back to their home locations, instead of their next hold location. Attached is a screen shot illustrating the issue. The cancel hold item, TWILIGHT, has a long hold list, but the instructions say to return the item to its home location, MCLOUTH. It should actually go to NORTONVILLE to fill the next hold on the list, as illustrated in the second screen shot, which is the transit prompt that only displays if the item is Checked In. Is this an area where development will need to be sponsored, or is it a known issue/bug? I looked and was unable to find anything on it in bugzilla, so apologies if I missed it. Searching not working in OPAC of Koha-3.0

Hi, I am able to search in Staff Client in my Koha 3.0, which is running under Debian 5.0. But, my searching shows "nothing found" in OPAC. After facing this problem, i stopped my Zebra server by "NoZebra", but, yet, nothing changed. Again, i can login there in OPAC, but no searching. And, i can login & search in Staff client. -- Best, Zico

I have updated my install of Koha with the latest patches and see a new field I didn't see explained. Can someone tell me what I'm supposed to put in the 'Location' field? Koha Virtual Appliances

Hey all, I have finished uploading a new set of Koha virtual appliances. Each version is available in VirtualBox or VMWare formats, and in configured and unconfigured states. At the moment, there are versions for the 3.01 official release, and versions for 3.01.00.032, which was the latest from git.koha.org at the time it was created. The url is http://kylehall.info/index.php/projects/koha/koha-virtual-appliance/ . I created a login for koha.org ( kylemhall ), but I do not know how to edit or add new pages. If anyone wants to put a page on koha.org for the virtual appliances, you have my permission to use/modify the text from my own site however you wish. These version also have the curses based front end, kohamc, which I mentioned. In the vm's, it's the shell for the root account. The version in the 3.01 release is newer. I am very interested in getting feedback about it. I think it would be great to expand this app to allow it to run rebuild_zebra with whatever options a person might want, and any other koha related activities that require cli work. Let me know what you think. I forgot to add the GPL to the top, so I hereby release the code to kohamc under the GPL v2. If anyone here is familiar with perl/curses, is there a way to allow the script to temporarily drop to a bash session, then return when a user types exit? Checkout 3.1 from Git

Hey All, I'm in the process of uploading a set of latest version Koha vm's. I'll let you know when they are available. What I'd like to know is if there is a way to check out the released 3.1 via git. I see there are tags such as v3.00.01-stable_update but as far as I can google, there is no way to check out a tag. Does anyone have any advice. One of the reason for this is I have written a perl/curses based management console to make using the Koha vm even easier. Before, you had to log in and find your ip via ifconfig. Now when you log in as root, you are presented with a management interface that will tell you what version of Koha you are running, what your ip is, and allow updating via git, restarting apache, and restarting the zebra daemons all from a menu system. It's still a work in progress. I'd like to add even more control to it eventually. If I don't install Koha 3.1 via git, the update command will break. So, does anyone know how I can pull Koha 3.1 from git? Koha events

Hi All, I'm wondering if anyone ever wanted events in Koha? Events may be like onpatronremove, onbibliosave, onbiblionew etc... For example if one wants to check spelling and marc-correctness of the record before it is saved to the database one could put either 'default' or home-made perl script to a special place like $KOHA/events/scripts/ and make links to these scripts from $KOHA/events/onbibliosave/ folder. Every time koha saves a biblio it calls scripts from $KOHA/events/onbibliosave/ in default order provided by fs passing there all the information on biblio available at the moment. Events may be used for statistics, checks, adding some automatically and dynamically calculated defaults... Probably some WUI would be nice but I can't see it's implementation right now. Everyone is welcome to the discussion!
