They are in the script to help prevent bad values being entered into the database. As to whether or not upperagelimit is a mandatory field, I do not know the answer. That is, the records are not inserted using the functions provided by C4/Biblio.pm which would populate both the "old database" along with the marc database. Next available applies to the itemtype. IE if the person doesnt care what type they get. They just want the next available copy they choose this. If on the other hand the want say the Large Print copy only, theyd choose that from the list below.
