translation complaint...

HI, I want to stress that I am not a programmer but I happened to had participated in a couple of translation projects all of which originating from the linux world. None of them would rely on files tossed around the project but rather they would have separate files, sigled out and being specifically of the type of "language" files. Take for example the "LearningAccess" clone of Koha (I did not participate in that projects). They deviced a mechanism in PHP that allowed the translators just to translate the "language" files into their own languages. To me, a no programmer, it seems a disastrous move, to start an international effort to translate Koha in the way we do it today. Thank God "acli" modified my polish files for the changes he thought relevant. But Paul, who contributed a fantastic solution of text only include files did it only for the French version. Now, I don't complain he was egoistic. He had no choice, rather, because there was only a minor change he proposed. In my opinion, however, Paul's change was crucial for the future of Koha. He showed that the interface may be simple and very functional.... . After what I said, a no programmer at all, please flame me or guide me... . My suggestion is to implement a gettext-like solution where there's a set of files of interest to translators and these and only these files (or images) are to be modified for the i18n to take effect. Imagine a template file changes in the ./default/en/ directory and the author ignores informing about it the rest of the community. Now, everybody (of the international community) is to figure out what changes took place and when they took place, and he is to manually find the lines to be translated and modified. It seems insane to me. Benedict, (only here I repeat: I am a no programer and I may be missing an important point here)

For Apache, Koha depends on the setenvif module. 1.2.3 also still depends on the include module. For Perl, Koha depends on: DBI DBD::mysql Date::Manip HTML::Template Set::Scalar Digest::MD5 Net::Z3950 (which, in turn, depends on the yaz client at www.indexdata.dk) Am I missing anything? There might be some extra dependences introduced in 1.3.x... I started working on a debian package a while back. It can still be found at: http://mail.cmsd.bc.ca/debian/dists/local/main/binary-i386/web/koha_1.2.0-8… I'm certainly no expert at Debian packaging, but if this helps at all, have a look at it. It's easy enough to figure out what's going on with the markup if the text is there in the page, but it's different when everything is '<TMPL_VAR NAME="STRING_LoggedInAs">'. It also means that if you go in to make changes to your template, you've got a dilemma between simply entering the text as is, or going to the master language file, defining a new text variable, and inserting that variable delclaration into the page. It's not a problem if the template is on a one-way trip to your site, but if you want to later share it with others you have to be careful of all those changes. All that is not to say I don't think the idea has merits... I just think it needs to be thought out. -- Owen

directories disappeared from cvs?

changes invisible to cvs...?

Hi, Does anyone know how to force the cvs program to discover that an encoding of a file has been channged? "recode" changes an encoding and allows for a charset to be turned into another. After the change the local copy appears as NOT changed for the cvs program. I would like to convert the polish files from iso-8859-2 into utf-8 and then recommit them. Benedict PS. The system consits of Redhat 8.0, Cervisia, cvs 1.11.2.

mysql crash...please help

While experimenting with mysql the mysqld stopped responding to root@localhost. This is probably an effect of such command: delete from user where host='localhost'; Now I get this while trying to mysqladmin: [root@localhost koha-RC1]# mysqladmin reload mysqladmin: connect to server at 'localhost' failed error: 'Access denied for user: 'root@localhost' (Using password: NO)' [root@localhost koha-RC1]# What to do?
