Gentlemen, I have a problem using UTF-8 with Koha. If I import MARC-Data via z3950 special characters are treated differently ÄÜÖäüö works at some pages but not in all. ß dosn't work at any page. This is the ü I get from z3950 and this is the ü which is generated when I type it. These are two different characters. I'm using Koha 2.2.8, MySQL5 and Apache 1.3 on Mac OSX 10.4 with Firefox. I've read the notes on the Wiki and my server, Database and the tables are set to UTF-8. I also set the templates encoding variable and added the encoding to httpd.conf The z3950 server sends data UTF-8 encoded Did I miss something? Dorian Meid

Code Cleaning : Authorities.

Those first two are the main reason I am writing. Does anyone still use thesaurus.pl ? Considering that now frameworks allow to link Authorities with one another, I think we should drop linker down. One problem is : All linking and hierarchy code is UNIMARC and hardcoded. I would like to allow more versatility on this. But this would require those new system preferences : relation type subfield (UNIMARC 2) relation authnumber subfield (UNIMARC 3) relation authtype subfield (we should agree on using authtypes or authtypecode as value in those subfields) (UNIMARC 5) relation tag (UNIMARC 550) child flag (UNIMARC f) mother flag (UNIMARC "g") Plus would require some little modifications of auth_finder to enable relation Choice. Maybe it could interesting to enable multiple authority link for a field. This would only require to manage a list of authorities to search in. We reviewed the AuthoritiesMARC code with Paul. And thought that unification between Authorities.pm and Biblio.pm was not a worth the work. a) Authorities search is much different from biblio search. b) inner tables differs so that it would oblige us to make heavier functions. So Authorities Will stay as such. While Code cleaning it, some questions remains. GetSummary as well as Buildhererarchies is still quite customer dependant and used for display. But it Hardcodes some HTML preprinting. So that when people want This or that display, one has to modify a C4/AuthoritiesMARC. For instance : One wants that term list are displayed : /Heading/ BT /Broader Term/ NT /Narrower Term/ UF /Used For/ /Comments./ Another wants that term list are displayed : /Heading/ TG /Broader Term/ TS /Narrower Term/ EP /Used For/ Comments : /Comments/. Another wants only Heading$a -- Heading$b -- Heading$z And we have to make little changes to the code and then upgrading process is harder. Solution ? A) Using xslt ? B) using HTML::Template to "simulate xslt" Then ppl would only have to modify template for summary processing "mini" template on each record. C) keeping this as such. This would also be helpful in getting information for search resultlists in biblios more user adapted. Comments welcome. -- Henri-Damien LAURENT

Hello all, I've installed, as previously said, what will be Koha 3.0 in 2 libraries. Here is a summary of some missing things that have to be done : Installer ========== i've installed from CVS. the 2.2 installer has to be rewritten almost completly, as : 1- the librarian part of the install is now done through the webinstaller 2- the config file has heavily changed (.conf => .xml) Does anyone plan to work on that in the next 2 months ? MARC editor ============ The actual MARC editor has some limits : - the code is ugly (i've written most of it, I assume the ugliness ;-) ) - the templates are heavy & hard to maintain - the indicators are poorly written - duplicating a field requires a form submission, thus it's slow So, i've asket toins to rewrite the editor. There won't be new major features, it's just a "code cleaning" and "very complex bug fixing". Fines and Overdues =================== SAN-OP has commited some interesting features about fines and overdues. Except they work only if you have fines on overdues. Which is not the cas of every libraries. we will fix this problem asap (1 of our 2 koha 3.0 libraries don't have fines, but they want to be able to know which borrowers have overdues) I'll also have to describe a little bit what SAN-OP features does... Letters ======== The new letters system is not yet used everywhere : suggestion accept or reject for example, still have to be completed Database commit ================ A fresh install from the CVS won't work at all, i'm almost sure. I'll commit a uptodate koha.sql and updated UNIMARC frameworks asap. I'll let libLime or anyone else work on MARC21. waiting for your feedback. Hi (again...) I realise that, for instance, the Koha copyright is given to katipo (and it's written in almost every script). Knowing that katipo has resigned from it's Koha engagment by selling it to libLime, I think we can put that point on an agenda to decide what to do with the copyright. Hello all, i've committed a .sql file with uptodate SQL structure for Koha 3.0 ($KOHA/installer/kohastructure.sql), but get some question : - are the labels, label_conf, C4/Labels.pm, ... still needed ? by the label editor ? looking at Labels.pm, there is a reference to labels_templates table that I've never seen anywhere. Something missing ? - mediatypetable seems useless (used only by admin/mediatype.pl script, that is not used by anything) I've removed this table, cry if I was wrong - I had a sessionqueries table, that was empty and never used in CVS, i dropped it too - I've a category and subcategorytable tables that are called only by admin/itemtype[sub]category.pl, what are they done for ? They had been commited by genjimoto in 2005-06, and never updated (except "automatic" code cleaning) I removed both. translation to Portuguese of the npl-OPAC template

Hello it's the first time i am sending an email to this list. I have a contribution to the Koha comunity, the translation to Portuguese of the npl-OPAC template. It was translated by me and revised by two other colleagues here in Instituto de Informática do Ministério das Finanças e Administração Pública in Portugal. I think the result is very good and accurate, but of course it can still have some errors. I'm not sure this is the right place to submit the file... I am now working in the translation of npl-INTRANET and as soon as it is finished i will send it to the comunity. So I wanted to get a fix out that would allow the people with mysql 5 (who were currently trying to install on localhost) get koha installed. Phase 2 can be to prompt the user for a hostname for the mysql db and use that. Koha Project Day Summary

Hi gang, We had another Koha Project Day yesterday. Here's a summary of what we did: Chris worked on a few more unit tests, finishing off the tests for C4::Date. Quite a bit of wiki cleaning and thinking/talking about how to use git in the project. Of course, chris also blogged about his koha project day: http://blog.bigballofwax.co.nz/articles/2007/06/25/koha-project-day-2 Russ worked on the styles of the supplemental sites koahdocs.org, translate.koha.org, contribs.koha.org; took a look at Plone as a possible replacement for our current koha.org site; started doing some bug reports for version 3, and got selenium going: http://bugs.koha.org/cgi-bin/bugzilla/attachment.cgi?id=109 Mason did more bugzilla updates, and started on the process of updating default templates in rel_2_2 so they will be suitable for a 2.2.10 release Josh worked with Chris on git, and added some documentation (partial still) on how to use it for the Koha project. Ryan helped some folks who wandered in with questions they had. Feel free to join us next week, the festivities will start at 12:00pm EST and continue for about 12 hours. To join us, you'll need to download an IRC client (for Windows, mIRC is pretty good: www.mirc.com/) and point it at irc.katipo.co.nz and the channel #koha. We're also thinking of moving the day of the week we do this on to give more folks the opportunity to get involved ... is there a day of the week that would work best for you and your team? I think I have round the problem, heres what happens essentially the installer runs mysql -uroot -e "GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES on Koha2.* to 'kohaadmin2' Identified by 'fish'" Then it tries to use that user .. this worked with MySQL 4 .. but with MySQL 5 we need mysql -uroot -e "GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES on Koha2.* to 'kohaadmin2'@'localhost' Identified by 'fish'" If someone who is running MySQL 4 could try the above statement and make sure it works fine with 4 ... i'll update the installer, if it doesnt, Ill update it to do a version check and then run the appropriate grant line. If I dont hear back by morning 7 time (about 11 hours), Ill get a version 4 up and running so I can test.
