Biblio, BiblioItems and Items

hello, I'm trying to understand the purpose of the following tables and how they communicate : 1. Biblio 2. BiblioItems 3. Items It's confusing, because first I though BiblioItems table is for books only, but when i added a CD/DVD item it was entered in the BiblioItems. but not added to the items table until I add another Item within this CD/DVD.. Dear Koha developers, I would like to know about how to convert MS-SQL database of catalog into Koha database and others. I don't following issues; - existed Bar codes of multi-copies of one book in library and branch libraries that which field of Koha-mysql. which way best solutions or check lists to import to koha database - Anyone experiece about how to create or best way Koha call numbers for books and other collections. We have only same numbers for each collection for english and russian etc on previous official record. Many thanks, Gana

Koha support for other DB

Hello all, I have a question mostly asked by each librarian or related staff that is there support of any other database in koha? If someone want to use Oracle or SQL Server instead of MySQL,in Koha is it possible? Thanks.

koha-dev-env.deb -- setting up a Koha development environment on Debian squeeze

Hi. If one wants to develop Koha, one needs to set up a computer with all the necessary software installed. To simplify this for those of us using Debian squeeze (the current testing/development version), I made a .deb package that does that. (This is unfortunately helpful for those not using Debian.) It is called koha-dev-env, the current version is 0.1, and it is available via apt if you add the following to your sources.list: deb http://debian.catalyst.net.nz/catalyst stable catalyst After that, this should work: apt-get update apt-get install koha-dev-env There is a public git repository for the package: git clone git://git.catalyst.net.nz/koha-dev-env.git The package depends on a number of other Debian packages which provide CPAN modules that Koha requires. Some of the CPAN modules are not (yet) packaged for Debian (at least not in squeeze), so the package's postinst script installs them via the cpan command. This is the first step in my plan to create a Debian package for Koha. The rest of the plan is, roughly: * Prepare Debian packages for all CPAN modules Koha needs that are not in Debian yet. * Work with Debian to get all the CPAN modules included in Debian. * Prepare a simplistic Koha package. * Improve on Koha package, based on experiences on using it in various installations. * When Koha package is of sufficient quality, upload it to Debian. There may be some things that Koha will need to change, to make packaging it for Debian easier. For example, Koha currently declares that it wants Storable 2.21 from CPAN, when Debian only has 2.20. If the newer version is not actually required, it would be good to bump that down to what Debian has. All feedback, and bug reports, are welcome. I'm happy with them coming to the list, where others can join the discussion, or to me directly.

Converting Koha sources to UTF-8

I would like to convert the Koha source tree to UTF-8. Having everything in a systematic, modern encoding would be beneficial for everyone, I think. I wrote a script to find files that are not in UTF-8 (attached for review); it uses the isutf8 tool from Joey Hess's moreutils package (see http://kitenet.net/~joey/code/moreutils/) The script excludes a number of files based on the suffix, to avoid confusing things by reporting binary files, etc. It currently reports 59 files for me. Most are just copyright symbols or names in release notes, and all of those seem to be in the ISO-8859-1 (Latin-1) character set, so converting them is easy. I did the actual conversion with the "iconv -f ISO-8859-1 -t UTF-8" command. The following three files puzzle me, however: C4/tests/testrecords/marc21_marc8_combining_chars.dat etc/zebradb/etc/urx.chr etc/zebradb/lang_defs/en/sort-string-utf.chr Is it acceptable to conver them to UTF-8, or should they remain as they are? I don't know how they are used.

Advanced tag editor in IE

Hi The advanced tag editor is not opening for the fields 000 and 008 in IE 6, 7 and 8. This is due to a spacing error in the java section of the files under (/usr/share/koha/intranet/cgi-bin/cataloguing/value_builder): - marc21_field_008.pl (line 69) - marc21_field_008_authorities.pl (line 65) - marc21_leader.pl (line 59) - marc21_leader_authorities.pl (line 59) It reads: "unimarc field 100\",'width=1000,height=600,toolbar=false,scrollbars=yes'); but should be: "unimarc_field_100\",'width=1000,height=600,toolbar=false,scrollbars=yes'); This causes an error in IE. I did not check the other files in this folder by now. I think, this could be fixed for future releases? Regards, Stefan
