Some issues related to KOHA 3.0

Hello all. Happy New Year to all. I have used KOHA for 3 months and now almost all of my problems has been solved. Thanks to all the members of the list who always replied to other posts and helped people out in the best way they could. KOHA is such a stable package that I could modify the codes very well and get it to work as I wanted. I have added few functionalities by modifying the codes. I have added biblio search option, direct biblio edit and also fulltext integration in a newer way. I am now testing the barcode system to be used with our system. I hope it works too. I am a bit confused that what happens when I scan a barcode, what inteface should I use to scan it and what features should I enable??? The other thing I wanted to ask is that is it possible to run the rebuild_zebra.pl in my server through a button click in the web interface by the client. We have 12 libraries hosted in a single KOHA install using the multiple zebra multiple database facility. Each library's database needs to be selected first using "use library1" and then we need to export the KOHA_CONF as "export KOHA_CONF=/etc/koha/library1-conf.xml" and then only we can execute the rebuild script. I was thinking to make another sh script to store all the commands that needs to be executed and then execute the script. I just wanted to know that is it possible to execute a script in the server by clicking a button in the web interface. Thanks and Happy New Year to all once again. A couple of Debian install questions

I just tried my first Koha install on Debian: OSX + VirtualBox + Debian + Koha dev install. I ran into a couple of problems I wanted to ask about: 1. Install didn't proceed correctly until I manually created the koha-dev folder alongside the location of my git checkout. 2. I got several warnings about prerequisites missing after running Makefile.PL. Does that mean that the installation instructions are missing a step? I have struggled a lot to see whether Koha works successfully on Ubuntu 9.10 distro. But surprisingly it does not gets installed successfully on every machine and here is the observation. 1. When basic installation of Ubuntu is done it has libmysqlclient16 file already installed. 2. In Ubuntu.packages lists of koha istallation it asks to install libmysqlclient15-dev through dselect. So the question is which version of libmysqlclient is necessary on Ubuntu 9.10 for KOHA libmysqlclient15-dev libmysqlclient15off libmysqlclient16 libmysqlclient16-dev libmysqlclient-dev Another question is when mysql-server is installed it installs libdbd-mysql-perl, libdbi-perl hence while running dselect there is package name called libdbd-mysql-perl listed again and then it will install latest libdbd-mysql-perl package so libdbd-mysql-perl package gets installed twice. I have tried doing all combinations of checking one of the libmysqlclient version files and trying koha installation on Ubuntu 9.10 but the installation is unsuccessful with the following error Koha error The following fatal error has occurred: DBD driver has not implemented the AutoCommit attribute at /usr/lib/perl5/DBI.pm line 705. Compilation failed in require at /usr/share/koha/lib/C4/Auth.pm line 30. BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at /usr/share/koha/lib/C4/Auth.pm line 30. This error was coming on Debian installation as well but it disappeared when we installed libdbd-mysql-perl only once that is only while installing mysql-server and I thought it should not repeat in Ubuntu but I have tried all combinations but Ubuntu installation is not successful. Why in 'Add Marc Record' only a 'Move Up' for subfields ?

Hi to all, If you check the 'Add Marc Record' page in Koha 3.0.x you can see that you can move the subfields only up ('Move Up' button). This function is done with a javascript function: function upSubfield(index) { ... } Is there a specific motivation because there isn't a 'Move Down' button? Dear Dr. Manjunath I'm bit late in response and don't know what is the view of other Koha users. I can share my personal experience with you. I think community version of Redhat is now CentOS, not Fedora. So there may not be regular upgradation of Fedora in future. We shifted to Ubuntu with all our library specific FLOSSs like Koha (3.0.4 is we use now), DSpace (1.5.2) and Moodle (for LCMS on FLOSS). The beauty is that the smooth upgrading to the next release always ensured both for OS and Koha. Moreover, regular release cycle is helpful (twice in a year June April and October). Hope this help. Help needed in Conditional variables passing to templates

Hello all. I am using KOHA 3.0.3 in Debian Lenny. I am trying to integrate the fulltext viewing option of GSDL in KOHA in a different way than the existing one. When we search for a string in KOHA then it displays a list of results. I am trying to make a link to GSDL fulltext option through KOHA records directly. In the search results we have a place holder named "ACTION" where I have placed a link "View Full Text". On clicking the link it goes to the GSDL and searches the records for the particular author and title. I found that matching both title and author is not possible in GSDL so I decided to match just the author and display results. My main problem is that, I have made a field 953 'a' for storing whether the particular record has fulltext or not. If the field says "YES" then I need to display the "View Full Text" link in the "ACTIONS" placeholder of the search results. I have come to know that we can use  to make conditional variable passing and displaying, but I am having a problem in deciding whether the field 953 'a' contains a "YES" or a "NO". How can I find out that for every record in the current search result. I have looked into the search.pl and search.tmpl but got no idea from that. Please Help me. Koha Cache -- Problem with Changing Admin Password?

Does Koha use a cache to remember config settings in OPAC and Intranet? I updated koha_conf.xml to change the password and now in the librarian view and OPAC view I get this error: Access denied for user 'kohaadmin'@'localhost' (using password: YES) at /home/koha/kohaclone/C4/Context.pm line 667. Here's what I've done: 1. changed the password in koha_conf.xml. 2. updated the kohaadmin password in mysql for koha dbase 3. restarted apache2 4. checked if in terminal I can access mysql with new password -- yes I can 5. when the above error echos -- I was inserted the password it was getting in Context.pm line 667 - that password was the former password. 6. in Context.pm I hard code the new password and there's success. Does anyone have any ideas? koha-3.0.5 local keyboard in opac

Hi, I am trying to insert a bengali keyboard in my Koha 3.0.5. i was checking his provided pdf. There he mentioned* "Add following code to sysprefs OpacUserJS, OpacUserCSS and OpacHeader.". *The point is, i didn`t find any "OpacUserJS" or "OpacUserCSS" or "OpacHeader" in my Koha system. New to Koha - had koha installed on a production server & needed a development version - created one on a new server using the koha virtual appliance at http://kylehall.info/index.php/projects/koha/koha-virtual-appliance/ Koha works fine, but I can't search on the catalog in OPAC pages. Using SQLyog, I copied the database from the production server to the development version. I try to search in the development version and get no results. I search in the production version and get results -- for the same word. Are there files associated with the search that are not part of the MySQL database that I'm missing?
