System use and best way to beef up a machine

Looking for opinions... We have had instances mainly between 8-9 in the morning when the system is overloaded that items are not getting checked in. The librarians assure me they see ALL the titles come up on the screen. My only thought is that I'm having IO issues. What are my best options to assist with this problem? More Memory? I'm running a Dell PowerEduge Smart 2950 III Quad Core Intel Xeon 2.5 GHz(2 processors), with 16 GB memory Between 7:45 and 9:30 in the morning my system usage doing a top goes from 1 to 7, I've seen it go to 12 for the average load 1 minute reading. We had 271,694 returns for November. I suspect the majority of that was between 7:30-9:30 Monday - Friday. Which comes out to be about 250 items checked in during a 2 hour period. Pretty good with no help other than volunteers... But when something doesn't get checked in and they run an overdue it creates more work for the librarian to track the book down. We want to believe Koha is perfect, but we are having some issues. I'd blame the librarian, but I'm hearing this from several schools not just a couple. Thoughts? Help needed in Label Creator

Hello all. I'm using KOHA 3.0.3 in Debian Lenny. I have currently tried to set up the label creator for books and patrons. I started creating the labels but ran into a small problem. Generating labels for books is going good, but I'm facing problems in generating labels for patrons. I can generate visible label only when I select the Print Type as "Patron Cards", but this layout gives homebranch, patron type and patron barcode. The thing that annoys me is that I only want the patron barcode nothing else. I have tried to use "only barcodes" type and also assigned barcode field in the text field type but it generates blank pdfs. The only way I can get patron label pdf is by selecting the patron cards type. I tried to look at the documentaion but it doesn't explain about the "patron cards" type. I just want to remove the homebranch library name and parton type from the output generated by "patron cards" type. Please Help. koha 3.0.4 not "status" showing in opac

Sorry for cross-posting. I want to bring this across to the general list. I am seeing the same problem as Zico. It is in a 3.0.4 instance with a data base that was upgraded from Koha 2.2.9. The 'status' field in the opac-detail page is blank. The status displays correctly in the detail page of the staff client. Any suggestions? How to make z39.50 server

Hello all. I am using KOHA 3.0.3 in Debian Lenny. We are currently hosting 10 different libraries. We want the records of one library to be searched from another library. For this we are thinking to make a z39.50 server in our Koha Installation with all the records of 10 libraries into a single server. In this way we can share our records. But I cannot find any resources that says how to make a working z39.50 server out of my existing Koha Installation. If anybody has done it before or has some kinds of tutorials to make it, please reply. Please Help. SMS Sending

Koha 3.2 installation & translations

Hi all, I saw en/fr/ru/uk subfolders in installer/data/mysql/. I've made local copy of en folder, renamed it to pl-PL and translated some files (txt files and sql for marc default & BKS frameworks so far). After make install the pl-PL folder is copied over to KOHA_DIR\intranet/cgi-bin/installer/data/mysql/ but I need to install polish opac & stuff templates before running the web installer for pl choice to be available at first step (I'm running 3.2). So - two matters: 1. Whom do I have to be nice to to get pl-PL folder included in git? ;-) Are there any prequisities? 2. Having all languages' templates created and available after installing Koha is cool (and necessary for localized web installer), but it lengthens make and make install time a LOT. Can the language selection be made in Makefile.PL, so choosing other than English language would create only one set of directories/templates? What do you think? Piotr Wejman
