Hi, we are very happy to announce Koha3.0.1 Beta has been released on http://download.koha.org/ Its name is koha-3.00.01.005.tar.gz You can download file and signatures You can check the integrity of the package; either by verifying the provided GPG signature (.sig) or by comparing the MD5 checksum: f1a4b57bc9fddf3c7f020b861dd1a61e koha-3.00.01.005.tar.gz I will also tag this in Git as "version 3.00.01-beta" v3.00.01.005 You can dowload and test for one week, then it will become official release. If you encounter bugs during that period, please feel free to file a bug on : http://bugs.koha.org The bug will be adressed as quickly as possible. Koha 3.0.x Release Schedule : we plan to issue bugfix only releases on a 2 month base from now on. So Next releases should be beginning of April, June, August, October, December. Note that Windows is not supported for this version as there are blockers. Note that this version is still supporting only MySQL. Support for PostgreSQL is still very experimental. I apologize to translators. I had proclaimed string freeze, but some strings were still untranslated. In fact, they were not included in po files, which they are now. Po files are all updated on Pootle. Very few changes were added though so you you donot have much work and if you can complete by next Thursday, official release will provide full translations. Trouble using Koha

Dear Koha Developers This is Reza Payandehnik, the IT officer in American University of Afghanistan. I am really facing a problem with KOHA 3.00 installation over the network. Recently, I installed koha on Linux Debian 2.14, Apache 2.2, MySQL 5.0 and Perl 2.0. I used a KOHA installation manual to install all requirements and dependencies and then I installed KOHA. Everything is ok and Koha is working properly on the linux machine. There is no problem on working with KOHA on local linux machine. The problem is that KOHA is not accessible through the network. I mean windows machines can not get access to it, when someone browses to the http://koha:8080/cgi-bin/koha/mainpage.pl , Apache says that the URL can not be found on the server. Apache is working properly, becuase I installed other applications which they are accessible via the network easily, only KOHA can not work on the network. It will be very very kind of you to help me to solve this problem. Koha Project Announces KohaCon 2009

February 3, 2009-- The creators and developers of Koha, the first open source Integrated Library System (ILS), today announced that KohaCon 2009-- a conference for current and interested users of the Koha Integrated Library System--- will be held in Plano, Texas, April 16 &17, 2009. KohaCon 2009 is the sequel to the first ever KohaCon--held in Paris, France in 2006-- which brought together users and developers worldwide. KohaCon 2009 will feature an international slate of speakers (both Koha users and active Koha contributors) conducting presentations and workshops on a diverse range of topics. Topics will include technical information on how to develop for the various modules of Koha, support options, and even panel discussions featuring users of Koha talking about their experiences with the software. "We expect this event to have wide appeal," said Paul Poulain, BibLibre, CEO and Release Manager of Koha 2.x "The conference is for both techies and non-techies. In addition to presentations on the technical side of Koha, the conference will serve as a hands-on introduction to how users and developers around the world collaborate to make the Koha open-source software possible," Poulain explained. "Kohacon 2009 will be huge, everything is bigger in Texas. Plus you get to hear from some of the veteran Koha developers, complete with funny accents. What more could you want?" said Chris Cormack, one of the original authors of the Koha version 1.0, and current Translation Manager for the Project. This is a FREE conference. OpenNCIP, Koha, and diverged SIP code

I'm curious about the divergence of the SIP code between the Koha and OpenNCIP code bases. For example, in http://openncip.cvs.sourceforge.net/viewvc/openncip/src/SIPServer.pm?view=l… one can see that a bug fix was applied 2008-03-11 to the OpenNCIP code that doesn't appear in the latest Koha version of the code at http://git.koha.org/cgi-bin/gitweb.cgi?p=Koha;a=history;f=C4/SIP/SIPServer.… - and it looks like a lot of changes have not flowed back from Koha to the OpenNCIP project. I should also point out that on 2008-03-19 attribution statements were added to the OpenNCIP code recognizing the copyright, identifying the author of the code, and posting the GPL header. These are not present in the Koha versions of the files, which were added to Koha's repository before the OpenNCIP code was so modified. IANAL, but the providence of the OpenNCIP code should probably be recognized somewhere in the Koha codebase. Are there plans to bring these repositories back into sync? Hello All, The KUDOS Koha Users and Developers Group website is up and running at http://kudos.koha.org/ . Thanks to Josh for the help setting it up. Please let me know if you have any suggestions / criticisms / complaints / what-have-you. There's not much content at the moment, so suggestions are very welcome. Let me know if it seems slow or anything like that, the servers is a virtual machine, so I can bump up the RAM if it gets a bit sluggish. If everything seems kosher, I'll post something up on the Koha and KUDOS mailing lists. John Yokley, our CEO, posted the following message to the main Koha list. He is not subscribed to koha-devel, so he asked me to forward it to this list. I have been subscribed to the various Koha lists for some time, since I joined PTFS. I have 20 years' experience in the ILS world, 13 of them as a Sirsi system administrator and programmer at the U.S. Courts, NASA, and University of Virginia Health Sciences Library. Several of you already know me from that environment. I haven't posted anything yet because I am still learning the system. I thought it would be a courtesy to do my homework before posting newbie questions either here or to the main Koha list. However, I certainly plan to actively participate in the community, as do our developers. From my years in the Sirsi world, I know how valuable a resource a good user/developer community can be, and I look forward to building some good friendships with you. When I was a brand-new Sirsi admin, I got a lot of help from the older sites, and I have always tried to pay that debt forward by helping other sites in turn. I think personal relationships will be even more valuable in the open source world than in the vendor world. I look forward to a lot of good conversations!
